the link is a pdf of proposed actions by Florida's Governor and Legislature—the only amendment should be a tax clause on firearms and ammunition to pay for these changes...

https://www.flgov.com/wp-cont.....18.pdf

Punitive taxation on a constitutional right is unconstitutional, it amounts to the same as a poll tax.  There are already federal and state excise taxes on firearms and ammo already.  Unless you are advocating dipping into the state side of the excise taxes on firearms and ammo to shift toward the payment of those changes?

^The legislation is Florida's so should the tax be, but- if Florida is successful stopping school shootings and the proposal goes National so should the tax..  — The Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax (FAET) is a federal tax on the manufacture, importation, production, and sale of firearms and ammunition it could be increased to cover costs of a National implantation of Florida's plan...it's not cheap but what price do you put on our children....

An additional tax on firearms and ammo on top of the excise and sales tax at the state level is unconstitutional as it is a punitive tax on an constitutional right.  If the state wants to fund it, the state must find the usage from the sales tax side.  Laws and or taxes that further erode/infringe enumerated rights are not worth the cost for temporary safety.

So, the criminals and the wackos are going to be discouraged by a tax, is that how it works? One would think that they might just order ammo online.

^The changes aren't meant to restrict firearms or ammunition,(read the pdf in post 60) right now it's just Florida, with a Republican Government in Florida this is their legislation but Trump will push a similar plan Nation wide. Republican's will pass it without a means to pay for it, that's why I proposed a tax on firearms and ammunition to pay for it rather putting it on the credit-card...

They can tax anything and everything, Article I of the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution gives the Government leeway in Taxation...

So if I want to express my 1st amendment rights they’ll send me a bill?

No, our President is more likely stalling and apeasing the radicals, most likely till it blows over.

^Nobody is looking to ban the AR-15, it's one of the last American industries, it provides employment in manufacturing of the weapon and ammunition, sales, rifle ranges. If you want to waste your money on a Matty Mattel have at it..

The Florida shooting was a failure of current laws, failed parenting, failed school administration, failure of local mental heath-workers, failure on the part of local law enforcement, and a failure of the Federal system of background checks.

If this kid was on some kind of anti-psychotic or antidepressant because he couldn't deal with life logic would say maybe he shouldn't have a firearm.

Even the most fervent NRA member posting here has to question with this kids troubles with the law, school and psychological issues should there have been prohibition term on his firearm ownership!
