Here we go, 20 cents a gallon for a gas tax. Wall aalso wants to raise vehicle sales tax and registration. Will it get robbed again for public transit?

Why do we just defund the twin cities light rail which I suspect operates at a deficit. Charge users of it actual operating costs plus a small percentage for future projects?

Why does walz hate poor people? Since it will be those hardest hit by this unneeded tax.

48.6 tax is a little stiff, but it costs money to maintain build all these roads and bridges in what's a hostile environment for long-term survival of such structures.
It'll be a double whammy for border town retailers and gas stations with the Iowa gas tax at 30.5 means a 18¢ per gal savings can be achieved by crossing the border. casino visits or Mason City shopping will profit moving tax dollar out of State..

A gas tax no longer works. It is a disproportionate tax, as GD noted, it hits the poor the most. The better off people have newer, more efficient vehicles. And what about hybrids and EVs? do their vehicles not cause wear and tear on our roads? What about the vehicles going to CNG? All those Kwik Trip vehicles that are all CNG also need to pay their share (now, I have no idea if the gas tax also gets applied to CNG or not - anyone know?)
I don't know what the solution is but there has to be some method other than a straight gas tax.
Do we go to a mileage tax? Do we take all sales tax from vehicle related products and put that to the roads fund?

yep - good catch of another easy to figure auto correct typo. You should easily figure it was something not smothering.
Back on topic instead of pettiness.
Anyone have any good ideas on this? There needs to be a more just way of funding roads and bridges. Fuel tax no longer works with the wide range of fuel efficiencies that are out there.
