Man jumps off overpass bridge
A 33-year-old Albert Lea man halted his Chevy pickup on southbound Interstate 35, exited the truck and jumped off the overpass and onto Freeborn County Road 46.

A Freeborn County sheriff’s deputy saw him jump. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy happened to be patroling eastbound on County 46 and spotted the man standing on the bridge. The deputy parked and as he was exiting the squad car, the man jumped off the bridge.

The deputy never had a chance to speak to the man, and it is likely, according to the Sheriff’s Office, that he never even noticed the deputy pulling up. The incident happened at 12:53 p.m.

The clearance underneath the bridge is 16 1/2 feet, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The County 46 interchange is Exit 11 of Interstate 35.

The man, whose name was not released, survived the jump. He was not struck by any cars. He was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with injuries to his legs.

Albert Lea Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office at the interchange. Allen’s Tow-N-Travel towed away the Chevy pickup.

Was it the new lights on the street or the fact he wanted to get away from his Chevy pick up?

I really don't think it's appropriate to make a joke out of someone trying to commit suicide. He's a person in pain for some reason and you find it funny that he wanted to die. Nice.

You people are just sick. I don't know this person, but when someone tries to commit suicide (which is what I was told he was doing by someone who knows him), I don't think it's a joke. How are people with mental illness supposed to seek help when morons lke you are making jokes about their illness?

You people have more compassion for the dogs and cats at the animal shelter then you do for someone with mental illness. Get a life! Help someone with mental illness rather than making a joke of it.

We have tried helping The Breeze, but to no avail!

Well, you see they have no guilt or shame, because they're the real victims. It isn't THEIR fault.  :sarcasm:

Make all the jokes you want - let's see how the families who lost loved ones at the hands of a mentally ill shooter in Colorado feel.

And don't compare someone who is suffering from mental illness to Linda Tuttle - there, I said the dreaded name. Yes, I agree, she got off easy, but she has nothing to do with this and you know it. I'm upset because you are making fun of people with serious mental health issues and make jokes about it. This is why people who suffer with these illnesses don't seek help, because of morons like you.

Let's try to help these people instead of making them the butt of jokes. I feel sorry for you and hope you or your loved ones never suffer from this illness. This is nothing to joke about, because it no laughing matter. I've been there, and I sure as hell wasn't laughing at the time.
