How do you know that this person has a mental illness?  Jumping the gun a little, twiggy?  Same goes with the shooter in Colorado.  No one has determined any mental illness there either.  You're so sure that if someone does something you don't think is right, they're mentally incapacitated?

You obviously speak from experience.

I feel sorry for you and hope you or your loved ones never suffer from this illness. This is nothing to joke about, because it no laughing matter. I've been there, and I sure as hell wasn't laughing at the time.

I have to agree with Twiggs, depression and other mental illness is not a laughable condition. I know and have known people afflicted, it hurts. It hurts everyone they know too.

Look around, even if you're just looking in the mirror you are looking at someone with mental illness. We all have it, just different degrees.

On news stories like this - especially where you don't know the person - sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.

Make all the jokes you want - let's see how the families who lost loved ones at the hands of a mentally ill shooter in Colorado feel.

And don't compare someone who is suffering from mental illness to Linda Tuttle - there, I said the dreaded name. Yes, I agree, she got off easy, but she has nothing to do with this and you know it. I'm upset because you are making fun of people with serious mental health issues and make jokes about it. This is why people who suffer with these illnesses don't seek help, because of morons like you.

Let's try to help these people instead of making them the butt of jokes. I feel sorry for you and hope you or your loved ones never suffer from this illness. This is nothing to joke about, because it no laughing matter. I've been there, and I sure as hell wasn't laughing at the time.

First off, Not everything is done by, or run by, or controlled by mental illness. Hate to say it, but here is a list of variances:

1)someone who is developmentally delayed, or mentally retarded (Im not one for PC). They act on impulses often times, and don't have the mental capacities to think through them. They are NOT mentally ill.

2)Attention seekers. They also are not mentally ill. They want attention in whatever ways or means they can come by. This is often controlled by behaviors, NOT by mental illness.

Those are just two I can come up with at the drop of the hat, but I am aware of far more. We have become a medical dependent society...meaning everything that happens is because someone is mentally ill. Because they are mentally ill, they shouldn't be held responsible for their actions...it was someone else's fault. This all leads to a Victim complex...that can be clearly seen in Tuttle and Eaton.

All that being said, here is my response to your quote

*The dude from Colorado to this point has NO track record of being mentally ill. That is the talk for a defense at this point only. The facial expressions during his court appearance are more than likely an act...keep in mind, he was trying to earn his PhD in Psychiatry. He would know what to do to create an "insane" look...and from many observers, he seemed to accomplish SOMEthing like that.

*First off, don't suppose the guy jumped because of a mental illness. Depression is caused by chemical imbalance in the brain...often times not enough of lithium or some other vital, lesser known chemical the body naturally produces. Lack of sunshine has been known to cause depression as well. Financial stress has also been known to drive some overboard (no pun intended). Just because he decided to leave his truck on the side of 35 on a bridge and jump off doesn't mean he has mental illness. I think it was a move of desperation, but not really a serious suicide attempt. There are bigger, and higher bridges around town for that...some on 35.

*Most times, people who make jokes of others who do things like this, do so because it was a major fail. The heart DOES go out to him...as obviously he felt he had more than he could deal with. I think to some extent all of us on here have experienced the feeling of total helplessness. Some have totally different ways to handle it, than others. As another person said...we laugh because if we don't, we might cry...its a normal, natural human response. Also, I don't think anyone has laughed at the guy directly...just his thought process.

*I grew up with mental illness. The perfect picture of it. To the point people are amazed I came out "normal". In return, I was blessed with at least ONE special needs child who has the same issues that my dad had...minus the PTSD. I have another one who might be blessed with something a little different...that one I will attribute to a brain hardwire being different then a normal person's...not mental illness. My dad didn't like people laughing at him...at the time. Once the dust settled, he was usually right in the middle of it all laughing with everyone else. Its all a matter of perspective.

Now that the soapbox has been rendered useless, I say this. You yourself are causing a bigger stink by saying what you are to back yourself, than anyone else on here laughing at the situation. Again, I repeat myself, no one was directly laughing at HIM...they were laughing at his decision to pull his truck over, on a major interstate bridge (that wasn't exactly high), get out, and jump. Maybe it took that to get past whatever caused him his problems..I don't know. But it isn't your place to patrol everyone .

Life insurance doesn't pay off in the case of suicide. Besides that, I would guess she has already named her family as beneficiaries in her policy. I don't think her victims can legally take any of that, since it isn't her money. It's the insurance company's money, paying her family.
