Government workers don't care, they are out to take as much as they can get. It's culture in an institution that spends other peoples money on themselves. No one in the system has an incentive to save but they have every incentive to take. It's why Rome fell.

using his figures & adjusting for inflation @ $400 per month - 5 years would be about $24,000! that might not seem like a lot of money to some but for something that is available for free it seems like a luxury that could be done with out. how about it mr. mayor, councilmen & woman are you ready to go with out it? this might not seem like much of a big deal but by starting here it could lead to other unnecessary expenses that could be eliminated as well! it will also send a statement to the citizens of albert lea that what is good enough for them is good enough for the city employees! considering that this has been going on for awhile i wonder how this would have escaped the budget scrutiny as an unnecessary expense.

People in government positions (elected, appointed, or hired) need to remember where the money they spend comes from. It comes from the pockets of you, me and them. In these times when jobs are scarce, houses are empty, everyone needs to do some serious evaluation about what is a NEED and what is a WANT.
NEEDS are food, water, roof over your head, and heat and lights. After that anything else is a WANT. Bottled water is nice but it not a NEED, tap water is fine, it fulfills the need category nicely. Once the government type realize this everything will be much better. I will stop at this point as I can go on and on about the govt waste that I see.

OK, here's the ideal way to handle this. I doubt any of you have the kahunas to do it, but each one of you have the right.
The next time you are going to bring a couple empty gallon jugs to the grocery store to refill with water, take them to city hall and fill them from their dispensers.
If you're approached and told you can't do that, let them know that you have been paying for their bottled water for a long time and you have just as much right to it as they do.
