Quote | I have heard that they got busted in Glenville either last weekend or the weekend before last |
That was actually a few weeks ago at the Office bar. What is really funny about that whole deal (no pun inteneded) is that they told the State that they were going to be doing that (cards) and the State told them that they would either have to get rid of the card games, or get rid of their pull tabs. They chose to get rid of the pull tabs, yet the State still busted them. That's how I heard that it was set up, could be a twisted rumor though.

I had heard that the owner of the bar doesn't have a gaming license (for pulltabs) and that the pulltabs in his bar were put there by the Boosters. Heard the Boosters told him what he was doing was illegal and they could lose their license if he continued. He decided to continue and they (the Boosters), pulled the pulltabs out of the bar. I don't know how the state determines what is an illegal game. Seems a bit picky to me.

Actually, the pull tabs are run in Glenville by a charitable gambling board. The Boosters had some raffle tickets in the Office bar at the time of the raid and had to get them back after the sate confiscated them. I *think* that the Office had a gambling license (at least at one point and time) because they had all the ID's of people that were allowed to sell and redeem the tickets, but that could be pretty old news since I refuse to go to the bar after Vance (the actual owner, although he 'doesn't work there') ripped a local pastor's wife's ass when she went in and asked if he would like to donate money for the new playground equipment that was being purchased for the park just off Main Street.

We were discussing gambling last night and I talked with a couple of men that were playing poker during the bust at the Office Bar. They said that when the state busted the game, the first words out of Vance's mouth were: " what about the boys at the country club?, their game starts at 4". Now, that has to make him real popular on the course.

Boy, you hit the nail square on the head there Mamma! It just amazes me that someone would act like that in such a small town, especialy someone that owns a business and has to rely on the locals to support it. (we don't draw people from a 50 mile radius like Eaton says AL does, lol!) But from what I understand he has been like that most of his life.
