I am a STRONG supporter for major changes in our city. I think that our town should be more of a tourist attraction than a place for every old person in the state to reside in. I do not have a problem with old people but I do think that there needs to be many changes to Albert Lea in order for the town to grow I think that we need to find ways to bring in more businesses and primarily businesses that will attract tourism and younger crowds. Lets face it, ever since Wangen first took public office and through Eaton's residing as mayor this town has fallen behind every town around. I will not say that I am voting for Quincy but I do think the people of our fine town deserve to give him a chance to be heard. Maybe what we need is someone aggressive and willing to do anything to put Albert Lea on the map. I am not looking froward to living in a Cow-Town any longer and if there are no changes I know of plenty of people who have been talking about moving to other towns where the economy is better and places where there are more jobs and better paying jobs. I do know how many people are on welfare in this town and it is not fair to the people on welfare or to the people that need welfare that cant get it cause there are too many undeserving unlawful citizens raking in all the benefits of our hard working population. I am starting to ramble on in this post but I just want to say that instead of tearing down someone that wants to make a change, why dont we give him a chance to speak cause i know that i am not ready for another Eaton term. I would rather move to another town than live in here where the economy will continue to dive on account of an old lady not willing to take time to contact large corporations about moving here. It would be GREAT to see more jobs and better streets and I think someone with a fresh look on things would be perfect for our town.

GO BORLAND!!! About time we get a fresh outlook on things. In my opinion I think this once a great town, is being taken over by the small little society of the four major business owners in town. Everyone in office is connected up the ladder to someone important and it is sickening. Step aside Eaton and give a frsh face a shot at opening our town to more business and flush out some of the corruption! "IN MY OPINION THIS IS HOW I FEEL THINGS ARE".

I hope to not open the whole IP address thing again, but all you have revealed is that the person posting was using an internet connection that is provided by the state of Minnesota.  I could be any state employee.  I don't know what ORG ID is, but it would appear that it is someone in southern Minnesota.  The address on Cedar Ave is not the MN House but it is the dept of Admin. which is the the are of state government that is in charge of purchasing.

Chad, next time I am in St. Paul, I am going to post and ask you to send me that IP.  I would like to see it.

Repdan, I didn't mean to give anyone the impression that you had anything to do with that post.  I'm sure you have better things to do on a saturday night at 11:30 then to get involved in something like this. Besides, I'm sure everyone knows that there are literally thousands of computer connected to the internet through the State of Minnesota.

I too wish there was a more viable choice in mayor.
Albert Lea has had jobs leaving for years now it's citizens are leaving.  This is a serious problem.  Who is going to pay for that wonderful new courthouse?

Albert Lea is ground zero for economic regression, this has got to change, some how, some way or Albert Lea will have to be content with being another Fairmont, a little town of 10,000+ with some lakes along the interstate.  Maybe that is Albert Lea's destiny, I don't know, it just seems like the town could of or should of been so much more?

what I am about to write does not come from myself but from a person who has lived here all of his/her life and has my utmost respect because he/she VERY RARELY states his/her opinion/thoughts about anything. They are a 'listener' more than 'opinionated'. I tried to get him/her to join the forum but he/she would rather just read than post, wouldn't want anyone to know who he/she is not to mention that they are worried they would put too much opinion in there. But this is something that I have heard him/her say for years and now is the chance for him/her to say it and at least other's besides him/herself would know......

"we are at the intersection of I-90 & 35W......we should have expanded years ago because we are at this intersection...we should have attracted larger businesses because we are here. We should be more like Owatonna, Minneapolis, etc. We shouldn't be so repressed. It doesn't seem like we are attracting any kind of businesses at all and we should be. Perhaps someone else can elaborate more on what I am trying to say. But I have lived here all of my life (which is a great many years) and it seems that there should be a greater possiblility on an interchange like this....if nothing else for the 'tourism'. So maybe a fresh face/voice is what we need for this town. Although I am 'retired' I don't want to see Albert Lea a 'retirement/sleeper town'. It needs to have someone with more far reaching goals than our current mayor seems to have. "

Remember: this did not come from myself.......I am not that smart of a person to say something like this. After all....look at the few posts I do write on here?   :D

It's very important to bring more business to Albert Lea.  Both welcoming small business more, and trying to get more better paying jobs.  It's also important to find more things for the younger crowd to do.
Everything that I've just stated is obvious for anyone to see.  I hear those same things often, but I rarely hear plans mentioned of how to accomplish it. ???

We need to bring more people back to Albert Lea, and to accomplish that we need much more for good paying jobs.  That will help small businesses (especially in retail) tremendously, but once again, I rarely hear plans.  We've seen our economic development bring more businesses to Albert Lea, but in order to do so they've been giving away more & more money that we don't have to begin with.  Not to mention the tax-free-zones that will leave the rest of us with even more of a tax burden to shoulder.

I think durring election time, we need to hear more debates on solutions, because we already know the problems.

You have identified the problem north of the border without even knowing it.

By having the utmost respect for a person who has lived there all his/her/its/ life who isn't willing to to speak up when seeing a wrong is why you're in the state that you're in--no pun intended.
You said you have heard he/she/it say for years there is a problem yet he/she/it wouldn't step up in some way of protest reminds me of 1930's and 40's Germany attitude (we know it's wrong but we'll just be quiet).
Multiply he/she/ it to hundreds in Albert Lea and let a few people control is what has happened over the last 30 years.
Tell your friend to step up to the plate, tell it like it is and help create change instead of hiding in the shadows.

He/ she/ it reminds me of your last Mayor who was only going to run for one term and behind the scenes told of all the changes that should be made but when elected never said a word because he /she/it felt he/ she/ it didn't have the council's vote and didn't have the guts to stand up against wrong.

You are respecting he/she/it who helped create this mess.  Tell he/she/it to speak up and make a difference, and not leave it to other people to fight the battle.

Iowa just has more common sense.

ok, since this has been bugging me I spent a couple hours trying to figure out what's going on with people connecting from State of Minnesota computers. Here's what I figured out.

first thing is Repdan's State of Minnesota IP only resolves to a firewall, but, the firewall is in the St Paul area not in Southern Minnesota, so there is no way he had anything to do with any of this.

Shallow's IP resolved to

And Truth's IP resolves to

15    77 ms    79 ms    77 ms  albertlea-sc-S0-0.r.state.mn.us [207.171.109.13]

Shallow's IP is in the Austin area and Truth's IP is in Albert Lea area, but, they were both posting from State of Minnesota computers and I'm pretty sure that's not what we're paying them to do.
