You can't ban anyone Chris, even if you started the thread.  That's the thing about a discussion group, you get the opinions you want, and the ones you don't want.

As for the bullying you're talking about, sometimes it goes too far, other times it might help people learn how to deal with bullying later on in life.  Some bullys are horrible, and they can really screw a person's life up, especially if it's someone who  already has self-esteem problems.  For some though, the name calling and the rest of the torments from peers, teaches them how to deal with those situations.  If you learn how to deal with a bully in junior high, you'll be better off when you're in high school, etc.

You mentioned before telling the teachers about it.  Personally, if someone was calling me names, or even pushing me around, I'd never tell a teacher.  Atleast that way, eventually the person might respect you for that and stop, otherwise they might get even worse.  Bully's hate people that snitch, more than anyone else.  But thats just my advice, to each his own.

Wow this is hard suggestions...........I'm not too sure my dad is a construction worker and a huge smartass so I guess I learned from the best!!!  HMMMMMM???  What exactly do you want?  Just be you, you need to be happy with yourself I know it's really hard but life does get better and you will be better than them.  It's funny cause any school you go to the popular kids are the SAME and they will forever remain the SAME!!

Don't be the same it's fun to be different I pride myself on being different and difficult and boy does my husband hate that.  In the end,  I have always had a plethora of friends who like me for my goofy and strange smartass behavior!!

I believe that the spiraling degradation in civil discourse throughout this forum is a sad reflection of American politics and our society as a whole.  It seems that people are far too inclined to attack each other rather than attack the issues.  Isn't it possible to make a cogent point without profanity, innuendo, or insulting others? :(

WTF? OOPs, profanity. This discussion is about idiotic teenagers. What do they care about issues? We're not talking about adults who are supposed to know better. We're talking about teens whose brains have not fully developed in the decision making areas yet. (The average brain doesn't stop growing until age 21-23).They are trying to fit into their cliques so bad, they don't care who they hurt.

For most teens, politics is the last thing on their minds. Unfortunately, I agree that it’s Society’s fault. That’s obvious. Look at the violent games they play and movies they watch. It’s disgusting.

One of my kids gets picked on a lot because we’ve raised her not to give into other people’s crap. She catches so much flack, we’re considering putting her in tikwando (I know I spelled it wrong. Its not in my MS spell check list.)  for her own health and protection. We’re having problems finding someone who would teach her discipline, self-awareness and defense, rather than just teaching her to kill anybody for sport.

So you see, my wife and I are doing our part. Our kids are growing up respectful of other people’s views and learning to respect themselves. You can’t have a Society that is respectful of everyone until everyone learns to respect themselves. (Pipe dream 101).

Teens are getting mixed signals from adults and their cliques. A typical conversation in a teenager’s head may go like this.
“What do I do? Do I respect his opinion over my own? Everyone tells me to respect myself. That means my own opinions, too. I’m so f#@$ confused. I’ll just go into defense mode and cut his opinion down to make mine look better.”
Most adults know this behavior back fires, but you can’t get that into most teen’s heads. By the time they start thinking like that, its ALMOST too late.

Truckwriter, it seems that you are putting your best into raising your kids - thank you.  I feel that I have taught mine very well and that they have met or exceeded my expectations in many areas.  We stress personal responsibility, honesty, being accountable for your actions, respecting others, and being an involved citizen.

I have found that trying to teach them to be leaders and not followers is the most difficult thing to do.  It takes a lot of trial and error for them realize that what is easy is not always what is right.  I have two boys - ages 10 and 15 - so I have some insight.

Leadership qualities ARE VERY difficult to instill in a child. They have to have the personality to withstand the pressure of being a leader. You can tell if your child is a leader or follower by how they interact with other kids, then go on from there. Just remember, they have to respect themselves before they can respect others.
