I don't consider it doing well at all. It's more like catching up.
And the price I paid was probably too high. If I could do it all over again, I would have left the area. Now I'm counting the days I can earn enough to retire out of state. Honestly I really don't like the leaders, people or their thinking processes in this area even though I was born in MC. As I age, I find myself gaining contempt for typical, hypocritical white trashers like Geo and others of his ilk on this forum, who display typical Albert Lea redneck beliefs. It's just sickening...

I just had a visit from a new employee of the Tribune, Jeff Marmarstone. He has only been on the job for a week--he is a "photojournalist". He is just getting acquainted, and is out and about town "looking for pictures, looking for stories".
Of course, I advised him to check out the Forum to see what is of interest to locals.
What a unique concept--sending someone out into the community to LOOK for stories and photos, instead of just publishing submitted stories! This is another good sign that things ARE turning around at the Trib. The signs are good so far!
If you like what you see, I think a word of encouragement would be in order. E-mail the editor at news@albertleatribune.com I'm sure they would also appreciate news tips or story ideas--though nearly the entire newsroom is new, they really DO seem to be trying to come up with relevant material and reporting.
Some of us on this Forum have been critical of the newspaper in the past--and rightly so. Some even went so far as to contact Boone Newspapers directly-- http://www.boonenewspapers.com/ to voice our concerns. It may be too early for some to make a judgement--but I think it is only fair that if we hurl brickbats at our opponents, we should also hand out bouquets. If you feel the same--E-mail the Trib or Boone (or both) with your thoughts.

Scattergun Jim...I read your post where you refered to the "wisdom" on this forum. That is classic comedy man. I hope you weren't talking about the great wisdom past to you by your "contact" at the LEC that you mentioned back in September or October on the Mansion thread. Your "facts" were horribly wrong and your teminology was way off. What in the world is a "bull pen"....I'm not sure what baseball has to do with the LEC.
My hope is that somewhere along the line someone straightened that out for you. It would be embarrassing for you to still be relying on such crap and then telling a new editor from the paper to check it out.
I feel bad for you actually.

That's not cruel, it is true.
I think that is why I feel like so many on this forum are extremists. I don't agree with them, but I'm a bit more rational than many in here seem to be. That's cruel I know but, "The Truth" often is.
So many of the people I have talked to about this forum have a similar opinion. Most are really taken by the level of fear of our county and city government that minnow and others display. It's silly really. I mean to read this one would think that Freeborn County and the city of Albert Lea were assembling an army complete with a propaganda department and preparing to concour the nation....starting right here.
I wonder where the board will vote to build the work camps. I mean I'm with them on the civil liberties but, several of them need to calm down.

I think you'd be surprised at the number of people that read and participate on the forum. On the average day there are 400 to 500 different ip addresses that connect to the forum. Considering the large number of dialup connections in the area and the number of SMIG entries in the log files that number doesn't really give you an exact number of individual visitors I think the actual number would be a bit higher. The number of page views changes considerably day to day but it averages around 3500 and 4500 and day with a total of over 500,000 pages since August.
I put a counter on the bottom of the page 7 days ago and the counter should hit 30K pages viewed sometime tonght.
