Most of the trouble in Iraq today is caused by terrorists, but not Iraqi terrorists.
Number one, we are helping a people that dont really want our help. True, most wanted to rid of Saddam, but half the Iraqis dont even want a demacratic government. I mean come on, is the U.S. so blind that it actually thinks it can go around the globe and convince people to switch to a democracy by looking at us for an example?
Whats a democracy? You get to cast a worthless vote for the crook that will represent you instead of being told who will represent you? Holding our government up as an example will do nothing but scare people off.
Plain and simple, this war has nothing to do with what the Iraqi people want, it all about what we want the Iraqi people to want.
Now we decide to take Isreals side even more this past week, Bush seems to think that if he can keep us threatened from terrorists, that somehow that will keep republicans in office. Bush's actions have done nothing but insure terrorism on our land and its people for generations to come.

Liberal, wonder what the republicans are going to think about Woodwards book? He has written one where he pretty much supports Bush's Whitehouse, this book does not. Pretty much says what all the other books coming out are saying.
That Bush doesnt know how to tell the truth.

Do you mean Bush at War?  I've read that one.  I don't see how he is supporting Bush's administration in the book.  Much like reading All the Presidents Men, it was taking a glimpse of various editorials nationwide by people from both sides of the  debate.  Also, a day by day view of meetings, letters, phone calls, etc. done durring the first few months after 9-11.  I look forward to reading his new book, regardless of what side he leans to, he's a good author.

As for what you mentioned about what the Iraqi people want, its hard to tell just going by the footage we see, and the editorials constantly comparing it to Vietnam.  If Al Jazerra reported that the tooth fairy is a burglar, they'd be sleeping with one eye open, gun in hand.  Either way, what we see on the news isn't a good indicator here in the states.  First, sometimes we see people cheering in the streets, and celebrating on our nightly news.  Other times, we see them cursing America with AK's waving in the air in defiance.  Whatever seems to fit the angle the anchor/reporter wants to cover, thats the Iraqi people we see.  Thus, getting the impression thats what they all think.

If you want to know how the middle east feels about the war watch Mosaic on World Link TV. It's on Dish Network and DirectTV it's a 30 min news show that has the top news story for 5 or 6 middle eastern countries each time. They don't always use the same channels or the same countries and they show news from Islamic fundamentalist countries to middle eastern countries that are friendly to the west.

It's funny to watch state run Iranian news. Seems like they are always announcing a mandatory anti-American demonstration in one city or another.  So you obviously can't tell how Iranians feel about Americans because the demonstrations are mandatory.

The cool part about getting top stories from each country is it lets you decide for yourself what's going on. But you have to understand that some countries have state run media over there and are anti-american, but, those are also the countries that like to show US weapon in the hands of insurgents.

Of all the stations Al Jazeera is the worst for showing blood and gore. You certainly understand that suicide bombing are an effective terror weapon because chunks of people are laying on cars and stuck to the sides of buildings after they blow themselves up.  So even if it doesn' t kill you, you get splattered with the bomber and his victims and that's got to do some damage mentally.

As far as how the Iraqii people feel about us, in the last couple months the anti-american sentiment seems to be growing with the people on the street because of the power and water problems. They seems to think we don't care if they have water and power because they can't understand why a country as powerful as the United States can't keep the power and water on. So they believe we are doing it on purpose.  And the fundamentalist clerics are feeding into this.

The more I watch the more I think just keeping Iraq together as one country is more of a problem than we can handle. And the fundamentalist clerics are going to be a major problem and we'll be lucky if the country doesn't end up under their control like Iran or split into several countries with some under fundamentalist control and others being friendly to the west.

I think Muqtada Al Sadr is the toughest problem they're facing right now and everyday that he preaches that the fate of Iraq and Palestine are the same he will gain more and more followers. Just look at his followers now, they carry pictures of Al Sadr and the Ayatollah over their heads. And now that the Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has drawn a "Red Line in the sand" and is protecting Al Sadr we have a real mess on our hands.

Hopefully the UN can bail us out of the whole mess.

Why could only a very small percentage of people see this coming? It's like we were so mad, so upset over 9/11, that we just had to get our frustrations out by getting somebody...anybody, because we sure weren't going to find Bin Laden quick like.
