yeah I should.  Got pretty tired with the kids outings this weekend.  Should have proof read that one before I posted.  I'll do better next time.

Yet, as I said before.  I don't correct other people when they make simple errors in spelling etc.  Just the constant ignorance.

Minnow you make me sad.  Abstract theory is often confusing to the young and those lacking intellect.  Too bad you can't follow along.

Grinning Dragon, what you fail to see is that when you are talking about social programs, you are talking not so much about Welfare AFDC, which is a minute percentage of the tax dollar but about money that keeps Grandma and Grandpa in nursing homes.  Roughly 80% of the social services pie is dedicated to the elderly.  Long term nursing care has become so costly that percentage wise about 80% of all elderly are being taken care of by you the tax payers.  They receive Medical Assistance and yes, you are footing the bill.  That bill is not cheap.   Costs, depending upon the level of care needed can run up to almost $6000.00 per month.  How many people do you know that could foot that bill over the course of several years.  And medical costs keep rising.  Governor Pawlenty has proposed cuts in Nursing Home monies which will cause more and more long term care facilites to close their doors.  Where will these people go then?  Each and every one of us needs to look at this situation realistically because we may need to open our homes to our aging relatives and become their caretaker.  One of the breadwinners may need to stay home and cook for  them, clean up after their incontinence, shower them, brush their teeth, apply their deodorant, put on their clothing, take off their soiled clothing,  take care of their sores,  give them their meds, watch out so they don't leave the place and get lost, make sure they don't turn on the stove and burn themselves or the house down.  How many of us are ready for that?  No, I don't mind that my tax dollars are helping the elderly.  Do you?

Good post advocate.

"Yet, as I said before.  I don't correct other people when they make simple errors in spelling etc."---->BS alert!

That's a flat out lie. The evidence is everywhere.

That's not abstract thinking, that's adding 2 + 2 and getting 3...  I'm Mr. abstract thinker himself, having shocked my teachers from 5th grade on my over the top abstract thinking test score results. It was always my strong suit.

You're not thinking out of the box, you're talking yourself into the box...  :D  Dat's abstract tinking...

Advocate-
I see what you are saying, but the hard plain truth is this.  Why is it somebody elses responsibility, to fund someone elses parents nursing home costs?  The answer: NONE.

Toward the end of your post you listed exactly what was done before all of the assisted living taxation BS took effect.  Back in the day a part of the family cared for the ol' foogies till they croaked.

You may not mind paying for it, but I do.  As I stated before, if I could sign a piece of paper exempting me from paying taxes ever again, I would sign it in a heart-beat.

My wife and I make a good chunk of chump change, while we are well off, but by no means rich, and it just sickens me to see a good size of my check disappear into the federal and state taxation void.  Enough that we could have bought a newer vehicle or that $500.00 video card I need, but no I have to work  longer to buy the stuff I need.

My bro and I do not have to worry about our parents retirement or their nursing home costs, as they are taken care of with out the need of gov't handouts, and the same goes for my wife and I, all is needed is a little financial planning for the future.  I will not go into details but by the time we get booted into the wrinkled flesh farm, our kids won't have to worry about the costs.

On the social security issue, keep the money I have already paid in, I dont care, just let me out, to invest it as I see fit. Thats what the Washington politicians get to do. They dont pay into social security, and they get a hell of lot more back in retirement than anyone ever will with SS. If its good enough for them, why not all of us?

Taxes? When you have cut all the wasteful spending, (Bush), stop lining your buddies pockets with my tax dollars, tehn if we need it, raise my taxes, but not until you cut all the bull $hit we dont need. Example? Millions of dollars for a rain forest in of all places, IOWA? Give me term limits, iliminate PAC money and special interests, and bring back the line item veto, so we dont get wasteful spending measures included in otherwise important legislation. Also cut politicians pay and benifits to reflect what the average american makes. Give em what we got and you will see improvement for all in big hurry. State politicians should make average for their state, Washington politicians should make national average. Isnt anyone else sickened by the fact that the people we elect have voted themselves pay and benifits that none of us will ever have?
And leave pay raises to the people, not the politicians, we should vote on it, if we think they are deserving.
One last thing, abolish the parties, they are the biggest problem in politics today, in my opinion. Todays politician puts party and reelection first, the people and telling the truth second.
O yeah, cut the number of politicians in half and only have them meet every two years, unless some kind of emergency comes up, this shouldnt be a full time job, we cant afford it any longer.

Save it truth, you post a response everytime I make a mistake!  What about a couple days ago when you said I was an idiot because I spelled real estate wrong.  You jump all over posts with one mistake and someone catches three in yours.  If you wanna act like a spelling and gramar teacher, I hope you do start proof reading yours first.

I hope your right Dragon but with the cost if health care keeps going threw the roof. You had better keep investing. The government said today that Medicare will be broke in 15 years and SS will be broke in 2042. We all have to keep investing  and hope the market doesn't go in the Toilet

You are right, Madd Max--we need to keep investing and making plans for our OWN retirement.  If someone finds that too hard to do, they can always opt to have the government do it for them, under the present system of Social Security.  If SS were a private business, they would be charged with fraud--a Ponzi scheme, in which new victims pay for the old--no real financial reserves, just an IOU--horrible returns on investment--restrictive rules on how much you can earn (what private pension has those limitations?)--and you can't leave any of the money to your heirs.  Given the choice, would YOU invest 6.65% of your paycheck in this worthless scheme?  Perhaps that is why Americans traditionally have such a low rate of saving compared to other countries--the government got it first! :p

If THAT weren't bad enough, they take ANOTHER 7.65% from the employer--a total of 15.3% of ALL paychecks up to about $80,000.  This is money used to fund the Federal Government--money that YOU could be investing yourself--money that could be reinvested in infrastructure and industry within the U.S..  Does the corporation pay that 7.65%?  No, they just collect it for the government--they pass the cost on to the consumer--and the CONSUMER pays it.

No wonder that politicians will do their best to make sure that the privatization OPTION won't pass--why kill the "cash cow"?  Worst of all, Americans have become so conditioned to this obviously defective scheme, that they won't allow legislators the ability to  GIVE US THE OPTION--PRIVATE OR PUBLIC RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS.
