Minnow you are truely a sicky. Doing what is right and what is lawful isn't anything to be ashamed of. I think you are reading this all wrong. They are not ashamed of what they did. They are telling you what they had to put up with when they returned. You wouldn't understand since no Army in their right mind would take you with all your mental problems. I agree that they were treated shabbily when they returned and I don't think America should be proud of the way they were treated. They served their country because that was the right thing to do. I suspect you would have had more respect for them had they been draft dodgers. Some people will never understand....and I suspect you are one of them. As for me, I have all the respect in the world for these men and what they did. I try to email every veteran I know on Veterans Day and thank them for what they did. Too bad you can only use your spine to hold up your head .

Well it tripped my trigger to think that Minnow must have been all of 5 or 6 years old during the Viet Nam era and he thinks he knows what he is talking about. Lord knows he was still orally attached to his mamma. There are some things that are not funny to me and looking down his snot nose at veterans is one of them .

"That's because your real duty, your true duty was to the truth....to what was right. It wasn't following Nixon and Agnew over a cliff because your just a blind machine, incapable of being nothing more than a pawn...a puppet"
What I read by this post is it is believed by Minnow that the majority of troops used in Viet Nam were volunteers. I have to agree with Momma about this person being 4 or 5 when the "conflict" broke out, but I have to feel bad if Minnow does not know the meaning of the word DRAFT

The draft ended because hippies and other folks looked our for their brethren. If the hippies and anti-war people would have been patriotoc flag waving gung ho's..MANY more thousands of young men would have been killed and we'd still have the draft!
They were true hero's who were never honored.

Minnow....We do still have a draft system... it's called selective service. Fortunately there are enough reserve and inactive ready reserves out there to make up any deficits by the lack of active duty members. So actually, there were a bunch bra burners out there for no real reason. They never actually changed anything except their hair styles....

THANK YOU SOLDIER!
The uniform that you adorn, A piece of our history proudly worn.
Doing what you have to do,
Preserving our colors, red, white and blue.
You're putting your life upon the line
To protect this simple life of mine.
Our nation stands behind you as one,
For our colors will not run.
The proud and the courageous are but a few.
Our hearts and thanks go out to you!

minnow, before I got called up for the draft, I thought my friends were the hippies you so admire. We would get high, listen to Lenny Bruce, and think we knew something. It wasn't Nixon, but Johnson who was president at the time. The draft, the war, the army, Vietnam, or maybe all of it pulled me out of this life that you wish to honor as the true heros. I will not argue with you, some of them were heroic in their way, but I have no intention of making an apology to you or any one else for my choosing to serve. That is right, even though I was drafted, I chose to serve! Further more I owe this country a great debt for what the experience did for me. It forced me to grow up and become responsible for my self. Even though I do have regrets, they are not for having served. Not everyone who went in at that time had the same experience, but I for one feel fortunate and am very greatful.
