Maybe Taxpayer has something smart and intelligent to say on this matter to save us from Gab and his four headless horsemen?

Pay to Pee and pay to flush. Good idea Jim!! With all the crap that been fling off of his desk they should put a pay toilet next to his office so we can recoup some of the money we are wasting on Gabe's salary. ;)

Several counties around Minnesota including Hennipen, Ramsey, Olmstead, are applying for and receiving grant (free) money from the State for what is called Drug Court. It is progressive and a better way to deal with drug offenders resulting in lowered recitivism rates. Are you aware that Freeborn County applied for and received a grant for this very purpose and because no one in court services was willing to spearhead the program in Freeborn County the money had to be sent back to the State. Apathetic!!! Another example of keeping the old and not attempting anything new. Hey, maybe it would work. Tell me why other counties are making an effort and we are not? This has not been publicized and I am aware of this fact through a contact I have in another Minnesota County where the program is going very well. You gotta hand it to Ron, right there on top of things. Not!

Quote | we should buy advertising
to endorse our canidates for the next election |
Sorry George, there is a little law about any campaign material being located on public property, paid for or not. I would say that it would be a perfect spot to advertise this forum, but I would have to guess that an ad for this place would somehow not make it past the "inappropriate" list.
If this goes through, how about the county try something like corporate sponsorship? Something like a giant billboard on all 3 sides of the new jail advertising something like McDonalds? We could even get the inmate uniforms to match Ronald McDonalds!

From Madd Max--Quote | With all the crap that been fling off of his desk they should put a pay toilet next to his office so we can recoup some of the money we are wasting on Gabe's salary. | There are about 1800 hours in a normal work year, by the time you take off vacations, coffee breaks, etc. The $1800 income from "indoor advertising" works out to about a buck an hour. Gabe could probably handle flushing a buck an hour down the tubes.
HOWEVER--to flush the nearly half a million dollars worth of wasted bond money down the tubes, (as described in the initial post by Dan Belshan), that would mean flushing $277 an hour away, or a dollar every 12 seconds. Toilets don't recharge that fast, so he would need two of them. He would be hard pressed to keep that pace up all day, let alone prodding the County Commissioners into line, handling outside attories, writing letters for the Collaborative Chairman to sign, running the County Audio-visual department (microphones, tape recorders, etc.) There wouldn't even be time for him to get a "simple open-faced sandwich and a cup of coffee" from the architects!
If you figure that the courthouse was over-budget by $18,000,000 ($10 million plus $8 million interest), divided by 1800 hours a year, that's $10,000 that would have to be thrown away every hour. Since you couldn't possibly flush that much money per hour, if you kept it up for the 20 years of the bond issue, that's $500 an hour, or $8 a minute (a dollar every 7 seconds) for the next 20 years!
Obviously, that's more than one man can do--the repetitive motion would lead to carpal tunnel syndrome! He would need help, and who better than the 3 Commissioners that voted for the project?

Don't say that too loud, or the next thing you know Freeborn County will need an Assistant County Administrator!

Yes....that's correct to a tee.
Know why? Because Freeborn county and it's CA Nelson, don't want "drug court". Drug court is all about freeing up county jail space and saving costs. For obvious reasons...Nelson didn't want that! He wanted a new courthouse. That's why the windows weren't covered over after the first escape. The county wanted to display to us just exactly WHY we NEEDED a new jail and people escaping from jail served that purpose well. The second escape sealed the courthouse spending binge.
