SB - please list those programs you would trim and eliminate.
Senate bill is in final form and passed. House bill is in final form and passed. Reconciliation is now needed. One idea being floated is that the House will just accept the Senate bill so it can be done.
457 pages with writing in the margins. Limited debate. Didn't all the R's complain the ACA was moved too quickly and with not enough debate? How is this any different?
The ACA was over 1000 pages, and was given less the 24 hours to read. Don’t you remember Pelosi? “We have to pass it to see what’s in it”.
Let’s start out with monies to sanctuary cities, most foreign aid, i’m Sure one of you twits will pipe up and say it doesn’t amount to much but that’s how we start, baby steps.
I'm just saying that the R's complained relentlessly and for years, up to just weeks ago, about how the ACA was pushed through, and now, they did basically the same thing.
Agree on the foreign aid, especially when some of the aid is simply going to a country because we are giving one of their enemies aid as well.
Davis-Bacon also costs us a lot of $$, not only in the wages paid to the workers, but also to added time and thus cost, for government agencies to administer it, do all the paper work, wage checks, etc. that are also required.
You cannot touch social security or medicare/Medicaid
I think the retirement and medical benefits that senators and congressmen receive should be reviewed and adjust down to something similar that those they represent get.
Waste in all areas needs to be found and eliminated. Fraud in SS, MC, welfare, etc. and those found abusing the systems should be fined at least twice what they are found to have cheated.
^^ agreed on most points, SS and Med are the “third rail” . As far as the nazis complaining about how legislation is pushed through, you live by the sword, you die by the sword.
The republitards stepped all over their dicks pushing this through.
I do expect expat to do his lonesome cow routine about Bacon Davis.
Labor laws are in place for a reason, somewhere along the line there was enough abuse to create the need for a law. SB is once again parroting Trump and the Republican Party line with their never ending war on the worker.
A fair day's wage for a fair day's work.
Davis Bacon relates to Federal Projects Minnesota has it's own prevailing wage law.
What's good for the worker in general is good for the economy. The dollar earned and spent by the laborer does far more good than the dollars pocketed by the affluent.
-------------- History is no more than the lies agreed upon by the victors.
Back to the thread.. Trump & company tried to undermine OUR governments President by negotiating with the Russian government to remove sanctions put in place for their interference in OUR election. Trump was a mere candidate, essentially a private citizen. This is a violation of the Logan Act. The real problem here is the coverup, they knew exactly what they were doing, and the fact it wasn't kosher. why else would they go into a complete denial and coverup mode. this smells of Quid pro quo...
I have worked in the area of construction work and the Davis Bacon and MN labor laws for decades. I have to say that what I saw was not necessary and believe the market should make that determination.
For Freeborn County here are some of the required wages: LABOR CLASSBaseFringe Common Laborer (the guy shoveling gravel) $26.68 $17.67 Flag Person $26.68 $17.67 Pipe layer (Sewer, water, gas) $29.18 $17.67 Traffic Control (Putting up the temp signs) $26.68 $17.67 Quality Control Tester (this one pisses me off) $19.70 $0.13 Pavement Marking (total joke) $33.48 $20.91 Bituminous Roller $32.08 $19.70
That is just a sampling. IMO way out of line. Sorry but the Quality Control Tester should be one of the highest paid, not lowest. That is someone who is doing all the material testing for the project, making sure the materials meet project specifications and are placed properly. That person needs to go to many training's, have a strong math and science ability, and is typically someone who either went to tech school or is a fresh out of college engineering degree person.
People should be begging to get any of those construction jobs. Who wouldn't want to drive a bit roller all day for $32.08/hr plus OT after 8 hrs, plus the benefits?
Like I said, I've been around that work for decades, and it is way out of line, and costs the tax payers.
-------------- After we screw up health care reform, let's take on the initiative of unscrewing the education system (gov't education) Tacitus: (c. 56 AD-c. 117) "The more corrupt the state, the more it legislates."
