To me, this was his low point.  To give a politicized speech at the National Jamboree to 35,000+ Boy Scouts is just wrong on so many levels.

If you are going to go there and talk to the Scouts than do so in a good and positive way, not one in which you get them to boo the former president, hammer the media and even threaten the job of one of your cabinet members, who was a Boy Scout.

Someone in his circle has got to get some type of control on him and get him to wake up a little.

Trump is a mere distraction, his antics and hate speech eat the headlines while the Republicans decimate the country.

From the article: "The savings from these devastating cuts will likely go to tax breaks for the wealthy.  Last year’s House Republican tax plan gave 99.6% of its benefits to the top one-percent of earners, with virtually nothing for middle and low income Americans."

Yeah. Put sick and elderly people in yet more jeopardy, and pass the savings onto rich f@cks that don't need the money they have already.

This is making America great again???

This is not about Obama, however, he did send a video message in 2010.  He also met with scouts at other times.  Also, a number of other past presidents did not attend Jamborees while they were in office.

No other president who has attended or sent a message ever used the platform to do what Trump did.  It was not a political rally, it was a Boy Scout Jamboree.  Trump would have done good to have looked back at what previous Presidents have done for the Jamboree.

Shows me a few things: 1) if it is not all about him, he will make it be.  2) He has no clue of how to learn who his audience will be and then speak to them.  3)  even when he does something this wrong/disgusting/confusing/idiotic the Trumpers will still 100% support it.  Sad, very sad.

The IMF lowered its economic growth forecasts for the United States to 2.1% for this year and the next, down from the 2.3% for 2017 and 2.5% for 2018 that it had predicted in April.

The forecasts are a far cry from the 4% growth President Trump promised on the campaign trail, and lower than the 3% growth he targeted since assuming office.

Back on Topic . . .

The Boy Scouts of America issued a letter apology for the "political" nature of Trump's speech.  I felt it was a good letter and said what it needed to.  Unfortunately, the White House refuses to acknowledge that what was done and said was not appropriate.  And even sadder to me, is the comments that some have made on the Boy Scout site where the letter is posted.  The way they are complaining about it (both ways some for some against) is more disgusting than what he said.

And now, the next hurdle, NOKO, hopefully China will step up and sing Kimmy a lullaby, maybe one he doesn't awake from. It's in China's best interest, if Kimmy drops an egg it's gonna upset the whole apple cart and the world's economy possibly goes into the sh!tter.

The Dow? Seriously? That thing is a fracking bubble of imaginary currency, being shuffled about in a craps game, by @ssholes rolling loaded dice. F@¢k that. That right there will be the instrument of more fiscal undoing, long before weed-smoking welfare recipients, the villain of the piece you conservative wingnuts would have the rest of us fixate on.

And, by the way, the chaos of '07 came about during the lame duck term of Bush #43, a Republican President. To indicate a belief that this was somehow Obama's fault suggests a real and present disconnect from reality. Trump will preside over the biggest economic collapse since '07, and still you tards will still be saying that it's somehow Obama's fault.  :p

Posted by Self-Banished on Aug. 15 2017,6:25 am
The DOW is how businesses get financed, people invest to hopefully grow there money with the company, it doesn't always work but no one's forcing anybody. Research and smart decisions rule the day.

So I must repeat myself, the recession of 07 was caused by policies put in place by liberal idiots who pretty much forced banks to lend to less than credit worthy borrowers, morons that bought more house than they could afford with little down, that when interest rates dropped and they could refinance to lower their payment or term used their house like a kid with a piggy bank, hammer and total lack of common sense.

The auto makers sold their souls the the devil (unions) years ago by bending over every time there was a threat of a shutdown. These and a few other factors drove a slightly worse than usual recession.

Buster and his pet media suckered the gullible in this country into thinking this was the worst economic set back since FDR unnecessarily lengthened the depression then used that impression to make himself look moderately good when the economy started crawling back which it should have roared back.

Of course, more regulation, stupid people need to be saved from their own stupidity. Never mind there were far more idiots that borrowed 110% of the equity in their home when the market reached the top. There were far more of these types than the "McMansion" owners. Nobody held a gun to their heads and said "sign for the loan"

And of course the unions aren't at fault :sarcasm: Decades of politicians wanting nothing more than to be reelected so they capitulated and gave the government union dweebs whatever they wanted, that chicken has yet to roost but it's coming, soon, look at Illinois or California.

Yes, some banks and hucksters are to blame but the majority of the blame goes to the irresponsible, the twits that were brainlessly lured by liberal idealists who convinced them that they were owed.

^^^^You have the right idea on credit debt but you're pointing the finger at the wrong culprit..
Maybe you don't remember because you're not old enough, but in the sixties/seventies you had to prove yourself before credit was extended. Credit cards weren't just handed out in mailed advertisements, home loans required a substantial down-payment. This was all part of New Deal legislation, restrictions on mortgage lending, These restrictions were put in place in the 1930s by political leaders who had just experienced a terrible financial crisis, and were trying to prevent another.

So what happened, Reagan and the era of deregulation, to quote Ronny "Government is the problem, not the solution"...
Deregulation has turn America into a credit based economy doomed to failure..

There’s plenty of blame to go around, But Reagan and his administration hold the most , they forgot the lessons of America’s last great financial crisis,( The Great Depression ) and condemned the rest of us to repeat it.

Deregulation is the enemy of our society...

President Hosts Conference on Minority Homeownership
October 15, 2002

Today's Presidential Action

President George W. Bush hosted the White House Conference on Minority Homeownership to discuss public and private sector efforts to address the homeownership gap and increase the number of minority homeowners in America.

In June, President Bush announced the national goal of increasing the number of minority homeowners by at least 5.5 million by the end of this decade. Meeting the President's goal will not only help more Americans enjoy the benefits of owning their own homes it will also help strengthen America's economy. According to a study released today by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, meeting the President's goal will involve $256 billion in economic activity in the form of construction and remodeling jobs, spending on household goods, and other benefits.

Background on Today's Presidential Action

While the overall homeownership rate has reached an all-time high of nearly 68 percent, recent statistics point to a homeownership gap. The second quarter 2002 Census data show that non-Hispanic whites have a 74.3% homeownership rate, while African-Americans have a 48% rate, Hispanics a 47.6% rate; and Asian-Americans and other races a 53.7% homeownership rate.

In June, President Bush announced an aggressive homeownership agenda to dismantle barriers to homeownership by providing down payment assistance, increasing the supply of affordable homes, increasing support for self-help homeownership programs, and simplifying the homebuying process and increasing education. The President also issued "America's Homeownership Challenge" to the real estate and mortgage finance industries to join in his effort to increase the number of minority homeowners by taking concrete steps to tear down the barriers to homeownership that face minority families.

The Bush Administration is working to increase homeownership among minority Americans through a number of new and expanded initiatives, as well as through ongoing programs administered by HUD and other federal departments, including:

Providing Downpayment Assistance. The single biggest barrier to homeownership is accumulating funds for a downpayment. The President has proposed $200 million annually for the American Dream Downpayment Fund to help roughly 40,000 families a year with their downpayment and closing costs. In addition, the Administration has proposed the use of Section 8 funding to assist with downpayments, and provides downpayment assistance to low-income and minority homebuyers through the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund at the Department of Treasury.

Increasing the Supply of Affordable Homes. The President wants to dramatically increase the supply of homes available to low and moderate income families. The President has proposed the Single-Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit, which will provide approximately $2.4 billion to encourage the production of 200,000 affordable homes for sale to low and moderate income families.

Increasing Support for Self-Help Homeownership Programs. The President's budget triples funding for organizations like Habitat for Humanity that help families help themselves become homeowners through 'sweat equity' and volunteerism in their communities.

Simplifying the Home Buying Process & Increasing Education. Today's homebuyers face a confusing and complicated process. President Bush wants to empower homebuyers by making it easier for them to understand the process and benefit from cost savings. Through the Homebuyer Bill of Rights, the Bush Administration is proposing to make the settlement process easier for all consumers when purchasing a home, thereby protecting homebuyers through increased competition and simplicity. Working together, the Federal Trade Commission and HUD have begun targeting enforcement activities to stop predatory lenders from preying on uneducated homebuyers. The President also wants to expand financial education efforts so families can better understand what they need to do to become homeowners. The Departments of HUD, Treasury, and Education are working diligently to educate families about homeownership through counseling programs and financial literacy efforts. Specifically, HUD has proposed increasing housing counseling activities by 75% and is collaborating with the FDIC on a "MONEY SMART" program of financial education in minority neighborhoods.

Providing Better Financing Opportunities. The Departments of HUD and Agriculture make it possible for thousands upon thousands of families to achieve homeownership through the Federal and Rural Housing Administrations, which insure almost $100 billion in loans each year. The Administration also implemented a hybrid Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM) product that makes it easier for new homebuyers to stay in their homes in the first few years.

America's Homeownership Challenge

Since the President's call to action in June, private and nonprofit partners in the real estate and mortgage finance industries have been working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase minority homeownership. Commitments made by these partners include:

Substantially increasing, by at least $440 billion, the financial commitment made by the government-sponsored enterprises involved in the secondary mortgage market specifically targeted toward the minority market.

Launching twenty-five different local initiatives across the nation, geared toward eliminating the specific homeownership barriers faced by minority families in those communities;

Raising $750 million in below-market-rate investments by 2007, which will work in collaboration with local homeownership initiatives and be targeted to heavily minority program areas;

Pursuing strategic partnerships in 20 top housing markets between homebuilders, lenders, local officials, and community leaders to develop approaches that address the local challenges to building homes for minority families living in urban centers;

Establishing faith-based housing partnerships between the participants and at least 100 churches, mosques, synagogues, and other faith-based institutions;

Aggressively developing new mortgage products so that conventional market alternatives are available to combat the predatory loan products that are disproportionately targeted to minorities;

Creating new mortgage products to meet the unique needs of recent immigrants;

Dramatically expanding financial education efforts for minorities, providing financial counseling to at least 380,000 minority families, and taking measures at the local level to reduce predatory lending; and

Establishing multilingual, consumer-oriented Internet Web sites designed to help minorities overcome barriers to homeownership, including creation of a central data bank of affordable housing programs made available to real estate agents when working with clients.

Who cares if the Dems are having issues raising $$.  I never brought any of that up and what does that have to do with Trump and your so called list of accomplishments?

You need to open your mind a little and think outside your narrow view point that you are fed by the likes of Hannity and the rest at FOX.  I enjoy listening to, watching and reading from all sources and then consider the actual facts, stats, and data to make my decisions and opinions.  Instead of blindly just going along with anything that T has done is the best ever, do a little research and objective thinking.

sorry about the link.  Don't know why it did not work but that is the correct story.

I had to do some looking but did find that the 333 rounds for O is correct.

However, as of Aug 1, at similar time in office, O had 11 T has played 21.  So, if the $60k in carts is accurate and also through Aug 1, that is $2,857/ round.  I'm not a golfer, but that seems high.  Even at $50/round/cart that's about 57 carts per round.

Bigger issue to me is you add this cost on top of what he is charging the secret service for the office space in trump tower.  At the reported $130,000 per month, it was one of the costliest rental properties in Manhattan.

Posted by Self-Banished on Aug. 21 2017,5:01 pm

Children’s Health Insurance (CHIP) program was created in 1997 has nothing to do with ACA.

Minnesota's taxpayer will be responsible for the shortfall in revenue when Trump and the Republicans cause a federal shutdown.

Posted by Self-Banished on Oct. 02 2017,6:44 am
Ah yes, a shutdown, noble if the Nazi party stages it, heresy if any opposition causes it and the lame stream press is the enabling participant.
Posted by was1 on Oct. 02 2017,12:37 pm
Any government shutdown is a total embarrassment and a slap in the face to every taxpayer.  The cost that is incurred due to the shutdowns is insane.  If a shutdown happens, they should be the ones that do not get paid for the length of the shut down.  Also, their health care should be canceled with any shut down is happening.  Speaking of their health care, they should be on whatever plan that is the average of every US citizen, not their nice cushy plan that never gets touched.

Until some true leaders step up in each party, nothing will happen with health care.  The R's have spent 8 years being the party of "no" and do nothing, and now they cant get out of that rut.  And now the D's what to do the same.  Idiots.  All of them.

Also, sadly, no one in either party realizes that they need to work together to get things done.  I swear a D could come up with a cure for cancer and every R would vote against it.  And a R could come up with a solution to cheap, clean energy and every D would vote against it.

Just about every one of them needs to be voted out of office.

Posted by Self-Banished on Oct. 02 2017,2:17 pm

It's called a bubble, bubbles pop, the markets driven by speculation on what might occur, also increasing the money supply and keeping interest rates low during the past decade, the Fed instigated the rapid expansion that preceded the coming collapse in an effort to save US from the Bush economy, so far Trump seems destine to repeat the failed trickle down policy of the past.

When you add to that Trump and his Administration (wall street oligarchs) continue to erode protections installed for the investor.
Trumps protectionist tariffs will also play a part in this collapse.

Trump is still cruising on Obama's last budget and the Boomers retiring in mass, this will be Trump's first budget Congress passed, things look bleak, next year or the year after will be a repeat of 1929...If trump doesn't blunder US into WW3 first..game over lights out...

The amount of Americans filing unemployment increased less than expected

Retail inventories fell, the trade deficit increased meaning more imports (yeah, I've noticed, ' been busy as hell)

Over 138 weeks claimes stayed below the 300000 mark which means a strong labor market

And the labor market is tightening.

anytime filers goes down is good, as long as it means they found work and did not just drop onto wellform roles.

increasing trade deficit is not a good thing

and roughly 100 of those weeks of claims under 300000 were under O

labor market will have to continue to tighten as boomer retire

You Republicans Stooges have been trying to convict Clinton for forty years, she's been investigated by the FBI and more Congressional committees than you can count all at the bequest of Republican partisanship and they've found no wrong doing! (a total waste of tax dollars playing politics)

There's a lot of ties between Trump and Russia, particularly the Russian mafia/oligarchs, let the investigation proceed, we need more transparency on the Trump organization.

He's being investigated by a Republican appointted by a Republican who was appointed by the Trump  administration.
Trump fired Comey (FBI) and was dumb enough to state he was fired for investigating the Trump/Russia ties, that in-itself = Obstruction of Justice under the Constitution an impeachable crime.

Looking at Trump's tweets lately he seems hysterical, there's a panic in his tweets that magnifies the need to remove this unstable individual from the Presidency...

Maybe you two like it because it would put on the path to be like Greece ( not that there's anything wrong with what you to recently smitten love birds do in private ??? )

Part of our problem is our gov size, greed and structure, many programs need to be trimmed or canceled, this is why we need more representatives and senators like Alabama's Moore, wrecking machines to cut bullsh!t programs and cut spending. The US corporate tax is one of the highest tax rates in the world, third I believe. I wonder how many Asian products are in each of your Rollohomes.

I assume by this statement you are linking imports to the corporate tax rate.

U.S. corporations pay an average effective tax rate of 12.6% under the current tax law according to the GAO. ( United States Government Accountability Office )  The federal corporate tax rate stands at 35%, and jumps to 39.2% when state rates are taken into account. But thanks to things like tax credits, exemptions etc. the actual tax burden of American companies is much lower in fact one of the lowest in the world..

The Republican tax plan reduces corporate tax rate by 42% most if not all of the tax credits, exemptions remain in place.
If we zeroed the corporate tax rate it would have no effect on imports but a divesting affect on our revenues.

Cheap labor and high profits drive imports! Reducing the corporate tax rates will NOT create jobs or reduce imports...

What we have learned from the Republican tax plan is who they represent and it's NOT US...

Where have all the deficit hawks gone, south for the winter?

Posted by Self-Banished on Nov. 13 2017,8:09 am
The tax plan as it is now doubles the personal deduction so that the dead beats that pay no income taxes now get an even bigger return, voters of no consequence. The Nazis and the rinos are bastardizing the process.

Cheap labor? The unions drove out the companies starting in the 70's, we're reaping what we have sowed. We are nothing more than a service economy and it becomes more dangerous all the time. Corporate tax cuts, repatriation of overseas money is what we need. Of course the Nazis and a few sour grape republtRds are going to do their best to throw a monkey wrench into the machine, they care not for the real tax payers, the middle class and they want nothing to do with helping the country if it makes our president look good.

Posted by was1 on Nov. 13 2017,11:21 am
Everything that I have seen that has come from a "non partial" review agency has said: 1) will not help the middle class, 2) lowest earners will be a wash, no real change 3) those in the $50k - $100k will actually see an increase in their taxes and those over $100 will see a decrease.  The further over $100k you are the bigger the decrease.

I do have to agree that unions have some weight to bear in the deterioration of manufacturing jobs here.  I know plenty of places that are union that are paying people way more than similar jobs that are nonunion pay.  Good for those employed through a union, bad for the overall though IMO.  Also, I believe unions have over stayed their use.  Started for safety and child labor issues, now, what I see, all they do is protect and reward the poor performers while hurting the good performers.

SB - you never said how FDR and Obama related.

All we heard out of the right under O was "all defects are bad".  Now, that it will better line their pockets its "these defects are outstanding".

Murder rates up in Chicago but over all for the entire country down.

2013, 2014, and 2015 job growth was higher than population growth.  I could not find 2016 data .  This is a rare occurrence; it happens only during periods of exceptional job growth, such as the late 1960s, mid-1970s and mid-1980s, when the ranks of the employed were swelled by the baby-boom generation and by the entry of millions of women into the workforce. It’s happened only five times since 1990.

Sorry didn't catch your sarcasm GIL

The Republican tax overhaul would eliminate the Medical deduction, which allows people who itemize their federal income taxes to deduct medical expenses that exceed 10 percent of their total income.

This is a real kick in the butt for all of US, if you're old enough to need Assisted Living or Nursing Home care and you can't write a portion of this expensive medical care off your taxes the vast majority of US will go broke and the Taxpayer will get the bill!

My opinion here, if you've been a responsible citizen have savings/assets  paying your own way and need nursing home care or any catastrophic medical expense you should be allowed to write off this expense from dollar one..

You and your spouse are getting to that age SB, as an example lets say your wife has a massive stoke, she can no-longer care for herself and has to go to a nursing-home.

She's your dependent you're now responsible for her Nursing Home bills, I doubt you could cover them long on what a short haul owner operator makes.

Under the current law you could write those expenses above 10% of your income off. It might be tough but you'd survive intact still an owner operator with assets.

What's your option under the Republican plan, bankruptcy-divorce and after your credit is destroyed and everything you own gone you'll be driving for someone else 24/7/365 and your wife will be a burden on the taxpayer..

Maybe you carry nursing home insurance, but from what I hear many of these policy's can be a real mixed bag with many stipulations and disqualifications...

sadly, the blind followers like SB don't care, don't believe or, in SB's case, are really just bits.

CBO has shown that this plan will greatly raise the deficit.  So, where are all the righties that are always crying about stopping spending and paying down the debt?  Where is almighty Hannity and is flipping penny plan?  quickly shut up on that one and is all in on this pile of steaming fecal matter.

CBO has also shown that as time goes on, only the wealthy keep any tax breaks, everyone else ends up getting bent over.

We need to end this failed two party system that has turned into completely party lines.   They need to tell the two extremes to that they no longer matter and are not going to run things.  They need to realize that 75% of us are in the middle, don't care about the fringe crazies and want things to start getting done TOGETHER.

AARP Opposes Senate Tax Bill

Dear Senator:

On behalf of our members and all Americans age 50 and older, AARP is writing to express our views on the Senate’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. AARP, with its nearly 38 million members in all 50 States and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, represents individuals affected by this tax bill in myriad ways. As we did with the last major effort at tax reform a generation ago, AARP is prepared to support tax legislation that makes the tax code more equitable and efficient, promotes growth, and produces sufficient revenue to pay for critical national programs, including Medicare and Medicaid. However, the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, in its current form, does not meet these criteria.

Most troubling is the negative effect the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will have on the nation’s ability to fund critical priorities. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will increase the deficit by approximately $1.5 trillion over the next ten years, and an unknown amount beyond 2027. The large increase in the deficit will inevitably lead to calls for greater spending cuts, which are likely to include dramatic cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and other important programs serving older Americans. Indeed, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has confirmed that unless Congress takes action, the reconciliation legislation will result in automatic federal funding cuts of $136 billion in fiscal year 2018, $25 billion of which must come from Medicare. Such sweeping cuts would be detrimental to an already vulnerable population.

Efforts to restructure all or part of the federal tax system should maintain incentives for health and retirement security. Such incentives are not only important to assist individuals in attaining the security they deserve but are vital to our nation’s future economic well-being. The expiration of several of the income tax provisions in 2025, introduction of chained Consumer Price Index to the tax code and, for many filers, the repeal of the state and local tax deduction, would result in little if any tax benefit for many older tax filers, and for others, a tax increase. In fact, the Senate Tax and Jobs Act may not deliver tax cuts that older Americans anticipate, and will likely increase taxes for many. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT), the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will reduce taxes for millions of taxpayers beginning in 2019. However, the JCT also estimates that beginning in 2021, tax filers with incomes of $10,000 to $30,000 will be worse off, paying $5.9 billion more in taxes. By 2027, taxes will go up for filers with income below $75,000 by $27.4 billion. AARP has estimated that the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will increase taxes on 1.2 million taxpayers age 65 and older in 2019, and by 2027, 5.2 million older taxpayers will experience higher taxes. In addition, this bill will provide no tax relief for 5.1 million older taxpayers in 2019 and 5.6 million taxpayers by 2027.

AARP is dedicated to enhancing retirement security, including retention of the additional standard deduction for those aged 65 or older, improving access to, and targeted incentives for, work-place retirement saving plans, and protection of earned pensions for vulnerable retirees and their families. We appreciate that the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act rejects the House provision which eliminates the additional standard deduction for those 65 and older, as well as rejects proposals to make significant changes to the tax treatment of retirement contributions, which would have affected the ability or commitment of many tax filers to save for their retirement. AARP also remains committed to retention of the medical expense itemized deduction and its return to the 7.5 percent income threshold, as well as the creation of a new, non-refundable tax credit for working family caregivers.

Although the Senate legislation retains the medical expense deduction — unlike the House bill, which repeals this important deduction entirely — the Senate bill does not address the 2017 tax hike on seniors. The income threshold for the deduction for those aged 65+ increased from 7.5 percent to 10 percent in 2017. AARP urges that the medical expense deduction be retained at the 7.5 percent income threshold for older tax filers. Nearly three-quarters of tax filers who claimed the medical expense deduction are age 50 or older and live with a chronic condition or illness, and seventy percent of filers who claimed this deduction have income below $75,000. Maintenance of this important deduction is critical financial protection for seniors with high heath care costs.

AARP opposes repeal of the individual mandate that will increase costs and cause millions of Americans to lose health insurance coverage. The CBO estimates that elimination of the requirement that individuals have health care will result in 13 million fewer Americans with health coverage over the next ten years. CBO also estimates that it will cause premiums in the health insurance marketplace to increase by approximately ten percent. As a result, premiums for 64-year-olds could increase by an average of $1,490. In addition to dropping this health care provision, AARP also continues to urge Congress to pass the bipartisan Alexander/Murray bill that will take immediate steps to stabilize the health insurance market.

For the reasons given, AARP cannot support the Senate Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, in its current form. We urge Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to enact tax legislation that better meets the needs of older Americans and the nation, and we stand ready to work with you toward that end. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me or contact Joyce Rogers, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.

Sincerely,

Jo Ann C. Jenkins

Chief Executive Officer

I'm just saying that the R's complained relentlessly and for years, up to just weeks ago, about how the ACA was pushed through, and now, they did basically the same thing.

Agree on the foreign aid, especially when some of the aid is simply going to a country because we are giving one of their enemies aid as well.

Davis-Bacon also costs us a lot of $$, not only in the wages paid to the workers, but also to added time and thus cost, for government agencies to administer it, do all the paper work, wage checks, etc. that are also required.

You cannot touch social security or medicare/Medicaid

I think the retirement and medical benefits that senators and congressmen receive should be reviewed and adjust down to something similar that those they represent get.

Waste in all areas needs to be found and eliminated.  Fraud in SS, MC, welfare, etc.  and those found abusing the systems should be fined at least twice what they are found to have cheated.

Posted by Self-Banished on Dec. 04 2017,11:40 am

Labor laws are in place for a reason, somewhere along the line there was enough abuse to create the need for a law.
SB is once again parroting Trump and the Republican Party line with their never ending war on the worker.

A fair day's wage for a fair day's work.

Davis Bacon relates to Federal Projects Minnesota has it's own prevailing wage law.

What's good for the worker in general is good for the economy. The dollar earned and spent by the laborer does far more good than the dollars pocketed by the affluent.

I have worked in the area of construction work and the Davis Bacon and MN labor laws for decades.  I have to say that what I saw was not necessary and believe the market should make that determination.

For Freeborn County here are some of the required wages:
LABOR CLASS                                                  Base                  Fringe
Common Laborer (the guy shoveling gravel)        $26.68                     $17.67
Flag Person                                                       $26.68                     $17.67
Pipe layer (Sewer, water, gas)                             $29.18                     $17.67
Traffic Control (Putting up the temp signs)           $26.68                      $17.67
Quality Control Tester (this one pisses me off)     $19.70                      $0.13
Pavement Marking (total joke)                            $33.48                      $20.91
Bituminous Roller                                               $32.08                     $19.70

That is just a sampling.  IMO way out of line.  Sorry but the Quality Control Tester should be one of the highest paid, not lowest.  That is someone who is doing all the material testing for the project, making sure the materials meet project specifications and are placed properly.  That person needs to go to many training's, have a strong math and science ability, and is typically someone who either went to tech school or is a fresh out of college engineering degree person.

People should be begging to get any of those construction jobs.  Who wouldn't want to drive a bit roller all day for $32.08/hr plus OT after 8 hrs, plus the benefits?

Like I said, I've been around that work for decades, and it is way out of line, and costs the tax payers.

Posted by Glad I Left on Dec. 05 2017,8:41 am
I don't get what you mean by "required wages"
Posted by was1 on Dec. 05 2017,8:47 am
on state or federally funded projects, construction contractors are required by law to pay, at a minimum, those stated wages and fringe benefits to all workers on the project.

PREVAILING WAGE
Prevailing wage is the hourly rate, plus benefits, required by law to be paid for each trade or occupation while performing work on state-funded construction projects.

These projects can be highways, roads, wastewater treatment plants, JOBZ projects, public utilities, schools, parks and recreation improvements, or any other construction project funded in part or whole by state funds.

Minnesota's prevailing wage law (Minnesota Statutes 177.41 through 177.44) requires employees working on state-funded construction projects or other projects covered by law be paid wage rates comparable to wages paid for similar work in the area where the project is located.

Posted by Glad I Left on Dec. 05 2017,10:29 am

What the Experts Are Saying About Outsourcing and the GOP Tax Bill
AFL-CIO Staff
November 29, 2017

We know the Republican tax plan favors the super-rich and the wealthy corporations over working people. One of the many ways it will hurt working people is by setting up a territorial tax system, under which the active income of U.S. companies earned offshore will no longer be subject to U.S. taxes. This will further entice U.S. multinationals to shift their jobs and profits overseas.

But don't take our word for it. Here's what the experts are saying about outsourcing and the Republican tax bill:

Jared Bernstein, senior fellow, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; former chief economist to Vice President Joe Biden:

“The Republican tax plan….is likely to lead to more outsourcing of U.S. jobs and a larger trade deficit. The tax plan moves to what’s called a territorial system of international taxation, which means the U.S. tax rate on the overseas earnings of U.S. foreign affiliates would become zero.”

Rebecca Kysar, professor of law, Brooklyn Law School:

“A pressing goal of tax reform is to reduce the incentives for companies to move their operations overseas. This bill does the opposite.”

Edward Kleinbard, former chief of staff, Joint Committee on Taxation; University of Southern California Gould School of Law:

“The administration’s tax cut proposal is coupled with a territorial tax system, which permanently exempts foreign income from taxation; this will further tilt the playing field in favor of foreign, rather than U.S., investment.”

Kimberly Clausing, professor of economics, Reed College:

The House and Senate Republican tax bills create a territorial tax system that “exempts foreign income from U.S. taxation. This tilts the playing field even further toward doing business abroad rather than at home, since there will always be countries with lower rates. A territorial system makes explicit and permanent the preference for foreign income over domestic income. It accelerates the profit shifting behind our corporate tax base erosion problem.”

Carl Levin, former senator:

“The House and Senate tax bills would be a monumental mistake for the country for many reasons, but one compelling reason is the disastrous way they treat foreign corporate profits and encourage companies to shift their operations and the economic benefits of intellectual property overseas.”

Richard Phillips, senior policy analyst, Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy:

“The most significant component of the Senate tax proposal on international taxes is moving to a territorial tax system, under which active income of U.S. companies earned offshore will no longer be subject to U.S. taxes. By doing this, the Senate tax plan moves in the opposite direction of real tax reform by substantially contracting the base of the U.S. corporate tax. According to the Joint Tax Committee, moving to the territorial tax system would cost $215 billion over the next decade. Exempting offshore income from U.S. taxation would encourage further profit shifting and would also create a tax incentive for corporations to move real operations and jobs offshore to take advantage of lower tax rates.”

Steven Rosenthal, senior fellow, Tax Policy Center; former counsel to Joint Tax Committee:

"The Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) that the Senate is debating this week would fundamentally change the way U.S.-based multinational corporations are taxed on their overseas income. But contrary to the claims of President Trump and congressional supporters, the new approach may still encourage U.S. companies to shift production overseas."

Reuven Avi-Yonah, professor of law, University of Michigan:

Certain “multinational corporations (for example, GE or Intel) will pay less because they have more tangible assets offshore. This creates an obvious incentive to move jobs (not just profits) offshore. Moreover, the proposal standing on its own would induce profit shifting because of the combination of the participation exemption and the lower rate (12.5% is less than 20%).”

Chuck Marr, director of Federal Tax Policy, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:

“Another, less-noticed provision would permanently set an even lower tax rate for U.S.-based multinationals’ foreign profits by adopting a ‘territorial’ tax system, which would encourage firms to shift profits and investment offshore. As Senate Republican Ron Johnson said recently, ‘With a territorial system, there will be a real incentive to keep manufacturing overseas.’”

The FACT Coalition

“This bill would create significant new tax incentives to move U.S. jobs, profits, and operations overseas, while exploding the deficit. The bill’s complicated structure also creates multiple new loopholes to allow for expanded tax avoidance by large multinational companies at the expense of small businesses and wholly domestic companies.”

Victor Fleischer, tax professor, University of San Diego:

“The international provisions of the Senate tax bill are worse than I thought—a very nice gift to multinationals.”

financial discipline and responsibility hasn't been a strong suit of the populace of our country. The number living from paycheck to paycheck is unacceptable, the debt-load most of these people are carrying is unsustainable.

This pending tragedy is only exasperated by the multinational seeking ever cheaper labor offshore and selling those goods here. This in-turn puts downward pressure on wages when the American worker can least afford it..

we haven't really seen an increase in employment we've seen the boomers retiring. this trend will continue for some time.

Yes, thanks to raising taxes on the richest to fund infrastructure and reduce the deficit.  It did exactly what we said it would because we've seen it multiple times now.  Clinton and Obama both raised taxes on the rich to fund infrastructure and reduce the deficit and we boom, Bush did the opposite and we bust.

In the words of George H.W., Voodoo economics will blow up our deficit just like when Reagan and George W. did it.  They got tax cuts for the rich, and all we got was savings & loan/banking crashes, recessions, high unemployment, and cuts to wages.  I just hope the GOP loses their majority soon so we have time to undo the damage yet again.

Yes, lawsuits and his lawyers are pretty sharp, don’t file unless they’re reasonably sure they’re going to win. What was the figure I heard, 100 million? This is nothing more that a house of cards. Stroke Lady and the nazis spent a total of 10 million to get a fake dossier ( whores peeing on the bed? An Expat fantasy) This is unraveling faster than a cheap rug.

It would seem truckers can't afford toilet paper, that must be the reason so many smell like they shit their pants. Trucker's are usually paid by the mile, one that sits on a forum all day doesn't make any money!

Posted by Self-Banished on Jan. 12 2018,5:55 am
^^ yeah, you sure know truckers alright, at least the long haulers princess. Now days the long haulers are nothing more than steering wheel holders, they spend 3-4k(usually a carrier like Swift interviews and has them sign papers promising the potential driver will repay the "tuition") on some shady truck driver school. Then the benfactor owns their ass for a couple of years. It gets worse, after they graduate they have to show up at the company's terminal for orientation after which they get to wait for a truck to come available, sometimes weeks with no pay.
After a couple weeks of sitting in a motel room they start getting desparete, about then the company will offer them a lease purchase of a truck, usually a used truck with 4-5 hundred thou on it thats about the time the newer trucks start having electrical problems or problems with the emissions. The company will fix the problems but charge back to the drivers the costs. Put huge payments, insurance, fees, trailer rental and whatever else the company can think of, one would make more money flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Now if you're a smart operator and you work more specialized, cut out as many middle men as possible and work hard, a good driver will make 6 figures net a year.

But I'm so glad an "expert" like our own Pickle Park Pricess is here to explain it to us.

Anybody with half a brain should be worried sick at the direction this country is headed in, wherein science is anything but, and facts are in the eye of the beholder. ^^Not really much of a defense...we're talking a woman with 180 porn films to her credit!

Would YOU have unprotected sex with a porn star?

Something is bad wrong with Trump's mental state and he's our leader—dangerous situation..

Taking a BJ from a young intern got Clinton impeached, but that's a totally different situation.

What we're talking about here is judgement and signs of a definite mental impairment...

Posted by Self-Banished on Mar. 21 2018,8:48 am
^^ I wasn’t talking about the perverted old man thing, I was referring to rape of Broderick, assault of Wiley, Flowers, numerous others.

You’re going to take the word of a porn star with 180 films to her credit?  :dunce:

The woman passed a polygraph exam proving she's telling the truth!

Add to that Trump's lawyer paid the woman $130,000. to sign a nondisclosure agreement.

Add to that Trump is suing the woman for breaking said agreement.

Are you going to take the word of the guy who lives in the White Lie House?

Polygraphs can be subjective, who administered the test, the FBI🤡

Take the word of our commander in chief over some low life whore? Yes, any day.

You are truly delusional, quit watching CNN💩

Trump's sexual improprieties show he has one concern, himself,
his sexual exploits without concern for wife or family speaks volumes.

You should, this guy is irrational and dangerous...

The 60 Minutes interview with the Porn Star confirmed she had unprotected sex with Trump. What's that say about Trump's judgement?
He was 60 years old at the time, this isn't a kid making mistakes...the Porn Star was 27...close to his daughters age.

This type of erratic behavior doesn't bode well for our nations leader.
I can only assume Trump suffering from untreated syphilis, that could explain his irrational tweets and his inability to complete a simple sentence...

To a degree I could care less about Trump's sex life(consensual), but the fact that he had unprotected sex with a porn star shows a definite lack of judgment. Trump has a large number of women claiming sexual assault I believe the number to be around 20 or so...

His tweets are becoming more and more erratic, his political appointments more hawkish.

He's spending money like a drunken sailor, if you were a true conservative you'd be alarmed.

I believe Trump is breaking under the pressure..

He'll be a one term President, I just hope he doesn't get US into a real war, we got enough bush wars still going on...
