QUOTE (Botto 82 @ Dec. 15 2013,10:37 pm)
QUOTE Maybe if all these Christians we find ourselves waist-deep in around here lived more according to Christ's teachings, that whole "least of my brethren" part, with regards to the “poor, weak, sick, wronged, cheated, oppressed, disenfranchised and exploited” people in our midst, they wouldn't need some government "rescue."
Maybe you should put down the Ayn Rand, and read some Nietzsche, who said, "In truth, there was only one Christian and he died on the cross." The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so. Ronald Reagan Is that the best you got?
As I suspected, you're one of those Westboro Baptist type "christians".

QUOTE I'll get back to this one tonight but I noticed you had no saucy retort to raising road and/or fuel taxes. I'll be happy to read it. In the meantime here's the response you wanted: QUOTE Don't like the big trucks tearing up the road? Raise the road tax, I'm sure the costs will be passed along accordingly
No "saucy" retort here. My remark was to point out the cognitive dissonance in conservative logic. Government services are okay, EXCEPT for what you don't personally use. Then it's "waste".
No problem with truckers or any other business owner utilizing our infrastructure. That's what it's there for. But when the plumber, trucker, or CEO decides he doesn't want to pay taxes anymore because of [insert random AM radio excuse here], I have to disagree with their logic. In the early to mid-20th Century there was a progressive tax rate that people paid. It didn't matter whether they liked it or agreed with the war, welfare, or NPR, it had to be paid or the debt would explode. That was before Reaganomics/voodoo economics/starve the beast came on the scene.
We can adjust, change, or end programs if there's enough public support. It's been done many times. However, the conservative rhetoric of starving the beast only results in secretaries paying a higher tax rate than their billionaire bosses and corporations, and debts that overtake our economic viability (infrastructure upgrades, education, trust funds, etc.).

Secretaries paying more taxes then their bosses? You really do listen to NPR,are they in fund drive mode? (Oh wait, they're always in fund drive mode)
The waste is rampant, all you have to do is look, a million here, a billion there and it starts adding up to real money. I'm sure if I look hard enough there are "little pet" projects that are near and dear to me. Here's just a few...

I don't think there is anyone who is not against wasteful spending, except those that are in on it. It is time that people realize excactly what the big ones are. Which ones are not to any but a few's good interest. Focus on that, not taking food or health care away from a citizen.

it is interesting how the Far Right get so frustrated with the other folks, because, obviously, the Far Right are the only people who are right. Correct?

Where is the almighty private sector, our savior for everything from hangnails to heaven? We have witches like Marissa Mayer claiming God is first in her life. Apparently God comes first for her, while her overseas sweatshop slaves come last.
And then Breeze speaks of liberal hypocracy.
