Hairhertz: QUOTE the Root River valley is a beautiful area...we've traveled there for years and camped at Wild Cat Landing south of LaCresent for the past 27 years.
It is beautiful. I miss all the hills, streams and valleys. Have you ever been able to be in that area for that short perfect time when all the leaves are changing color in the fall? I've never been to Wild Cat Landing, I'll have to check it out. LaCrescent has one of the best apple orchards I've ever been to. I don't recall the name, but if I remember right, it's on a hill right above the town, straight across from the bridge that crosses the Mississippi into LaCrosse. (They also make the best apple butter I've ever had in my life.)

Awesome SB. I've never been to Lake Vermillion but it sounds wonderful. I'd love to catch some of those ginormous fish I've seen pictures of caught in that lake! I hope you and the Mrs. have a great time and a safe trip.

The way the weather has been SB, you might have to use one of those top water lures to cast out onto the ice.

Wildcat Landing is located just south of Brownsville, MN. I've considered moving there because of its scenic beauty.
Lanesboro city park was a fun and cheap camping area before the bike trail came thru. It is still a nice town to visit on a day trip.

Lanesboro city park was a fun and cheap camping area before the bike trail came thru. It is still a nice town to visit on a day trip. I lived in Rushford, Peterson, Houston and Caledonia for a few years when I was a teen, and moved back to Houston for a couple of years when I was an adult because it's so beautiful in that area. I had never heard of the town of Brownsville before! I looked it up after your comment, it's beautiful. We are definitely going to go camping at WildCat Landing this year. They don't have 2013 prices posted on their website, but 2012 price was $20 a day for a primitive site. It's gorgeous, I feel I was robbed by not knowing about this town sooner! Thank you HairHertz. My youngest two children went on a 3 day camping trip with their class a couple of years ago to Eagle Bluff in Lanesboro. They loved it. I used to camp at a spot down below Eagle Bluff years ago. A farmer would let people camp in part of his cow pasture. Beautiful spot right next to the river, just had to watch your step and most mornings we were awakened by cows licking the tents. It started getting too rowdy so we stopped camping there. I'll have to check and see how it is now, maybe it's calmed down again. My youngest two would love to camp there. Can't beat the price.- Free!
