Riding bicycles on the sidewalk is illegal. (unless you are wearing green pants of coarse). :D

Actually, it is legal except in the downtown area. However, you do have to yield right of way to pedestrians.

I thought it was illegal for years, until a Tribune article a year or so ago when Engstrom looked into it because people told him it was illegal.

If it bothers you that much, why don't you go to a city council meeting and propose to them/demand that they now mandate using the streets and bike lanes, and ban riding on sidewalks (at least in the areas where bike lanes are avialable)?

Do any of you remember when the police department use to hire college kids to ride around in the summer and give out warnings to people that didn't follow the bike laws. Also they would go to the play parks and teach bike saftey.
