I think if more Americans were better informed on the really big issues facing us, they might decide that the biggest threat to our national security (when it comes to energy/fuel) is for us to continue being an energy/fuel glutton.
Jobs and cheap gas will be realized to be unbelievably ridiculous concerns when our water problems hit critical.
Things can't keep going the way they are. One way or another, things are going to change.
Fat-cat climate change denying chickenhawks send our kids to fight their ill-conceived energy wars around the globe. Who will be the fall-guys in the water wars---landowners? citizens with private wells?
As an escape from energy wars at least we have renewables as alternative. De-toxiing our fresh water, de-salinizing salt water is hugely expensive.
Water rights was/is a big issue with ranchers, etc out west. Strangely California is once again dealing with issues yet to come in other areas. Aquafers are diminishing in many areas, including MN. Vast amounts of water, once destined for aquafers, is being tiled, ditched away down river. Industry pumps out huge quantities, much of it wasted.
When aquafers run dry or are contaminated by industry we're in big trouble.
We found signs of water on Mars. Can't seem to manage the giver of life all around us.
