You had some fairy influential Politicians making economical threats in attempt to scare voters you also had several right-wing political organizations pumping money and propaganda at the VW workers.
These outside influences and direct threats from Politicians to withhold future funds crossed the line.
This isn’t a gray area, interfering with an employees ability to make a free and uncoerced choice of representation is a real right defined in the National Labor Relations Act.
