The county fair was indeed holding tractor pulls as late as 1995. I think that was the Sunday entertainment, and I believe at the time of day the tractor pull was held, admission was free.

I think they stopped having them when they moved the Demo Derby—their biggest draw at the time—to Sunday, which had been the day with the lowest attendance. They then started charging all day, since they knew people would come for the derby. That also opened up Tuesday night for another musical act.

The county decided it needed to suck as much money out of the people it could. Thats why most of the good stuf at the fair is gone? What they should do is have a free fair, and if people want to go to the grand stand to hear those nasel nose singers thy should pay for it. Instead of making the people pay that dont want to go to the grand stand. Thats why I have not been there for 40 yrs. nothing to go for?

If they feel they need a skate park, want a bmx area and pickle ball area why don't they use what they have that is setting unused. The old Farmstead area. Close to the bike trail, no houses close and it would probably look a lot better than it does now. The only thing I have seen it used for is burning of debris by the city. They could have sold it but chose not to. So let them at least get some use out of it.

It was a little later than that.  I'm thinking 2003 was the last year??  They obviously had people from all over the midwest here.

For the reminiscing.  Here's the 2002 results compliments of the fishwrap.

I thought it might have gone later, but I wasn't sure. The reason I remembered 1995 is because my then-employer was a sponsor. I wasn't sure how long it had gone, but I knew it had been at least that long.

It was absolutely a money-grab to ditch the tractor pull and move the derby. However, given that they don't charge admission before 10 a.m. on Sunday (to allow a free church service), I wonder how much they actually make? Is the derby still well attended since the Jaycees left? I don't watch the demo derby, and I've heard it's not as good as it was before. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Are the stands as full as they once were for the demo derby?
