Why would the Tea Partiers try to harm the marathoners? What do they have to do with anything?
I've heard the tax day/Boston Tea Party/Tea Partiers link before, but even on the off chance they were to do something, wouldn't they have bombed something having more to do with taxes or government than an event like the Boston Marathon? This didn't hurt the people they have an argument with. It hurt innocent participants and spectators.

I think it will be discovered that it was a plot by an American extremist group of some sort, who had the demented mind-set they were kick starting a new Revolution. It's going to make it even more difficult to talk to people about the problems with our government. People bringing up government problems and misdeeds will be labeled unpatriotic, extremists and terrorists.
Good thing we have so many drones ready to fill the skies, good thing we have the NDAA indefinite detention for suspicious characters. With any luck we will have the Enemy Expatriation Act sped through congress and approved - Or another EO implemented, which would be quicker. Good thing that super-spy center in Utah is almost finished.
