Police Officer Fatally Shoots Man in Mankato
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Mankato police officer fatally shot a man.
Officer Timothy Spellacy responded to a call of a suicidal man at a home in Mankato around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When Spellacy arrived, he was met outside the home by an armed man.
The BCA says the suspect refused to drop his weapon and instead pointed it at the officer. Spellacy fired once, striking the suspect who died on the way to a hospital.
The Ramsey County medical examiner identifies the suspect as 31-year-old Jonathan Hess of Mankato.
Spellacy is a 10.5-year veteran of the Mankato Department of Public Safety. He is on standard paid administrative leave.

Both the victim and the cop are loosers in this deal. The cop has to live with the fact he killed someone as part of his job and never really wants to be put in this situation.I should say the honest cops. The victim was looking for a way out in life and didn't have the balls to take his own life so he did what I call assisted death. They want to be killed by the police.

The cop fell for it when even we can figure it out. The cop knew what the call was about. It was not a sirprise. You either take cover and answer a first round or you wait and talk him down. What you don't do is shoot first He knew what the call was ahout. You take cover and tell him to put the gun down. You don't fire until he does. You don't kill because you can.
