Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Embattled radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced Tuesday she will not renew her contract that is up at the end of the year, telling CNN's "Larry King Live" she wants to "regain my First Amendment rights."
Schlessinger, 63, has been under fire for using the n-word repeatedly during an on-air conversation with a caller last week.
In announcing her decision "not to do radio anymore" after being in the business for more than 30 years, Schlessinger said, "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry or some special-interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent."
National furor erupted when Schlessinger used the n-word 11 times in five minutes during a call August 10 with an African-American caller who was seeking advice on how to deal with racist comments from her white husband's friends and relatives. The conversation evolved into a discussion on whether it's appropriate to ever use the word, with Schlessinger arguing it's used on HBO and by black comedians.

What crosses the line? Is it Dr. Laura, Grinning Dragon, or maybe Rush or Hannity can let us know when black people are whining too much and are being oversensitive.
For example, I suppose I could sit here and tell you all how those damn Holocaust survivors have been milking sympathy for far too long. I mean, by 1958 or 59 they should've been over it and gotten on with their lives. Except for the dead ones, of course. But people die all the time, no sense in making a big deal out of it.
Of course, I'm just a white guy who's never had to deal with any of the persecution I wrote about above. Nevertheless, it sure is easy for me to diminish what other people have gone through their entire lives.

Doctor Laura isn't "bailing out of politics", she's bailing out of the radio business. And the people in the video were not "bailing out of politics" they're running for office, or re-election.

Oh...Jim is Ernie Gann?; that makes sense; damn, Jim's a good writer; why the hell doesn't he get paid to write for the tribune?; in terms of laura schlessinger, she was raised in the presence of some of the most overt and outwardly racist language in Brooklyn; in other words n$$$$$ was a household term in her neighborhood presumably; she herself was a target from both sides; the italians hated k$$$$ and the jews hated w$$$ and both probably privately hated n$$$$$$$; i speak from experience; she might have planned the whole thing; i sure hadn't even heard of her (and i consider myself pretty media savy) until this happened and for god's sake, i've actually been on her website now; it all continues to work out just fine for her and everyone like her; she's an animal like the rest of us and fundamentally it's all about money and that was about the best ad campaign money didn't have to buy; i realize it might have been spontaneous, but trust me, it's been in the works for years; she speaks like a racist behind closed doors, just like you perhaps!; i must say, i have more respect for larry king after seeing the interview last night; clearly, his heart is bigger than hers and for record, she's not even that intelligent; she dug a hole for herself in that interview that revealed her true colors, she's a spoiled resentful person, who feels comfortable feeling sorry for herself (let me just blow your steam maddog "just like you denovo" - give me a break douche bag, you don't even me)
