Last weekend there was an individual out here at the mall soliciting the signitures on a petition to put a "smoke free Freeborn county" on the November Ballot.
I understand it takes 2000 signatures.
So I have to get working on the freedom to choose.
Do you understand that means public sidewalks, public parks, fishing on the lake, driving down the street in your car.
By the way he was overweight.

GEO, let me know if he shows up at the mall again, I'd love to sign his petition.
And GEO, what's wrong with only being to smoke in your home? Cannabis smokers are not even allowed that luxury.

We happened to run into the individual on our way to the show. Read what it was he was pushing and decided that business owners need to make their own decisions regarding this. He was polite when we didn't sign it and thanked us anyway.

I don't think anyone should be able to stop any other person from smoking in wide open public spaces. Hey Minnow-fart tobacco smoke is not a central nervous system depressant, that's the difference. However, should a private business owner decide to ban smoking in the establishment he/she ownes then that is their right as a property/business owner.
You see the difference. With property ownership comes certain rights to control what is yours. It's not the government's job to regulate smoking in privately owned businesses. If you don't like smoke don't go to places that allow smoking. If enough peolple stop going to places that allow smoking the market will adjust. Freedom to choose is not limited to the ballot box.
God......is anyone here from America? Does anyone remember how this counrty is supposed to work? All I hear in this forum is the government this and the government that. The government should do this and that and blah blah blah. Do it yourself. Do gooders are a pain. Because it seems a majority of the time they want signatures to convince some branch of government (usually the legislature) to help them. Can you hear my tears hitting the floor. I don't like alcohol. I don't like smoke. Good for you, go to Mc. Donald's you will be safe there. Just don't order fries they're bad for you too. Damn people we can't rubber pad the entire planet. People get sick, people get hurt, people catch colds and diseases happen. People go through decades of school and learn nothing, then those people post on here and put their ignorance on display. Be strong people. Life is hard at times and the government cheese can't save you.

Truth--that's the best piece you've posted yet.Quote | Do gooders are a pain. Because it seems a majority of the time they want signatures to convince some branch of government (usually the legislature) to help them. | Government has become so all-pervasive, all-controlling in our life that the first thing that people seem to do in reaction to a percieved crisis is to petition the government! This includes asking the government for relief from itself!
The best petition is conducted every two years. Promise to vote against anyone who promises "to do more". Remember, they are spending your money.

"Hey Minnow-fart tobacco smoke is not a central nervous system depressant, that's the difference"
Huh? Is that right?
Oh I see...cannabis smoke is a central nervous system depressant then...right? I've heard it called a lot of things, but never that!
Care to provide any shred of evidence? I didn't think so...maybe you should rethink your name eh...think? LOL

Yeah, I agree with you jimhanson, that is the best thing Truth has posted. I was beginning to think he was a big brother advocate, but it is obvious that I was wrong with this post. Truth, I apologize for the rush to judgement. However, I disagree that most of the people posting here want the governments help. Most seem to rebel against it more often then they approve of it. The difference is that it is selective. I find it interesting when they are against government interference when they find something interfering with what they love to do, but when it does not affect them directly they are indifferent or listen to the argument without much question. Generally speaking though, most here seem to be civil libertarians and want the government to get out of peoples business. It should stick to the essentials. The problem is the ever widening definition of essential service.

Yep, I'm also impressed by truth's opinion on this. Didn't expect us to agree on anything.
