MASON CITY - A Mason City man is pleading guilty to a meth manufacturing conspiracy charge.
Douglas John Pennington, 31, has been convicted of a single count of conspiring to manufacture methamphetamine.
The United States Attorney's Office says the conspiracy took place between June 2007 and September 2008. Along with others, Pennington acquired pseudoephedrine pills from Iowa and Minnesota and gave the pills to others to make meth.
Nearly four years ago Pennington was convicted of a felony druf offense in Cerro Gordo County.
A sentencing date has not been set.
Pennington faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison with the possibility of life as well as a $4 million fine. He might also get an 8-year to life term of supervised release after any imprisonment.
Is this fair? Is this justice? 10 years in prison mandatory simply giving others bottles of legally sold drugs. Could get life. Tack on probation and the whole ball of wax we will glady spend a cool half million to a million dollars on this guy and for what? Does it solve anything other than to help create more of crime. Have we gone off the deep end with this thing even for meth?
