Ok, I know I should'nt be so negative about this JOBZ thing, and it's good to have local control. BUT....God help us with who we have in control. Yes we need jobs in this town, but what are the rules? Our local controllers are the ones making the rules as they go? Can this be good, with Bishop and Sparks running the show?
Quote | Agilis employs two people, but will likely increase to employ approximately 10 people in the next two years, according to Pam Bishop, marketing director of the Port Authority. She said the business could grow to employ even more in a short time, if it is successful. | Now she's giving this incentive to companies that employ only 2 PEOPLE!!! http://www.albertleatribune.com/articles/2004/08/19/news/news4.txt

Now, I admit I don't know all the in's and out's of how this JOBZ thing is supposed to work, and this could be a dumb question but I have to ask it anyway. What does the school board have to do with it??

Nimble good point not only did Matt McPherson create a successful bow company he single handedly changed the industry. And he started in his basement in Austin and left when he outgrew space on the North edge of town.
Austin and Albert Lea lose one of the fastest growing innovative companies in the United States.
But lets look at what "meatpacking mentality" in local job creation lost when this company left the area. http://www.cncmagazine.com/archive02/v4i15/v4i15f-archry.htm
Where was Jobs Inc when Austin turned away one of the fasted growing privately owned companys in the U.S.
Were Sparks and Bishop still in meatpacking mania.

Quote (QuincyBorland @ Aug. 21 2004,4:21:am) | I want to build up Albert Lea, Bring more companies, better paying jobs, and more things for the younger people to do. |
These are all important goals to bring Albert Lea out of the rut it's in now. I'd like to know specifically, how you plan to accomplish each of these things?
I could be wrong, but I've always viewed the Mayor (atleast in our local system of government) as little more than a spokesperson for the town, that also is chair of the council and has a vote. Without the support of the council, it seems to me that the Mayor is powerless over most things. But, as I said, I could be wrong on this.

I agree with you Irish Eyes. I would also like to know Quincy, how do you plan to accomplish these goals you have set?
