I have to agree with you Irisheyes, the mayor in our fine city is little more than an at-large councilman.
If you want real change you'll need to clean house with the council, and get a majority of like minded people in there, otherwise you'll just have another situation like the County has now with commissioners voting against Belshan just because he's Belshan.

Hell, the title of Mayor here is a complete waste. Quincy... I honestly think you should be running for a council seat. That’s who holds the power here in this "retirement" town. THEY are the ones with the power and the Mayor is nothing more than a paper tiger here. All the meet and greets and palm pressing that goes on really equates to nothing. The mayor can have all the public pull he or she wants, but all the major decision-making is done in the council. How was it that they managed to garner all the power in this town? Why is there not a term limit for them? And how can things be amended to keep them from keeping all this power. Can the mayor veto anything or must the elected official just make themselves available for the photo ops? To me its just asinine and the council had best pull their heads out of their tail ends and see what is happening to this community and forget those insane plans for the retirement community….Wake up! When people retire, they GO SOUTH FOR WINTER! In spring and summer they GO NORTH to the lakes and enjoy the spring and summer there. Maybe they can market the depth of Albert Lea lake and say “Hey don’t worry if your 75 year old mom or dad falls in…. or rolls in the lake with their wheel chair, the lake isn’t deep enough to do any harm!”
The City looks great, but with this outdated vision of theirs they are going to kill it. And Quincy… If you don’t win the election, please think about running for council against an incumbent.
