Some of the larger metro areas have played with things like pizza and a movie. You go in and sit down almost like any place that you would go eat. You order right at your table and they bring the food to you. The only problem is, it takes a regular flow of people to support something like that.

Some of what is said here (myself included) is about as tolerable as listening to someone vacuum a cat.

Stadium seating would be great.  I enjoy going to Austin to watch a movie for that reason.  Albert Lea's theater would be better if they brought back the marquis on the mall sign.  It's nice to know what's playing when I drive by.  Clearly marked admission prices would be nice too.  The bathrooms could also stand to be quite a bit cleaner;  and maybe, just maybe, they could clean out the urine stench in the smaller seating theater.

Couldn't you charge $3 for 3 hours/or $7.50 unlimited hours for something like that?  Open from Noon to Midnight--that's a good "cover" charge for each movie--gives time for "before and after the movie" conversation, and having a drink or food.  Four shows a day.

Make money on the drinks and food--the "admission" or cover charge pays for the entertainment--better than hiring a band.

Though I would envision it as an adult entertainment, it COULD be structured for an early matinee for kids, as well.  I'd certainly consider going to something like that.

I like the idea of having a movie bar/grill, it would be something different in this area.

The big question with that is, are people willing to wait a few weeks to see a movie?

Going back in movie history... Does anyone know what happend to the pipe organ that used to be in the Broadway theater?

Moorhead used to have a bar with an attached theater.  The bar had free peanuts and many went there without going to the theater.  The theater consisted of raised rows of bar tables and and waitresses served drinks.  $1 admission tickets and second run movies.  You could smoke cigerettes in the theater.

The only thing about a theater in this day and age is battling against the DVD. I have a big screen TV with souround sound. I can pause the movie to use the restroom and I only have to pay 0.99$ for 5 days (Hollywood Video-Austin). It has to be a pretty big movie for me to go to a theater. I usualy wait for the DVD to come out and enjoy in my own home.

cea - Check with Ed Shannon of the Albert Lea Tribune about that pipe organ. He writes articles about things like that all the time.
