I am looking for ideas and suggestions that would make going to the movies more of an enjoyable experience to you.
For an example: Would lower prices entice you to go more often?

Seating that would enable you to stretch your legs out. I don't mean I need a recliner, just room enough to unbend your knees. It's hell to get old

Stadium seating with THX is where it's at. Once you see a movie in one, you can't go back.

How about a cup holder that isn't smaller than the cups? Last time I was there I bought a large drink and it didn't fit in the cupholder.

First of all, sell hot dogs or bratwurst at the concession stand. The kind they sell at the metrodome. They have nachos at the theatre in River Hills Mall (Mankato), and I am guessing that would be less of a mess than hot dogs (even with condiments).
Second of all, sweep and mop the floor once in a while.

Quote | sweep and mop the floor once in a while | Thanks for bringing that up--it's gross!
I've never liked the idea of sitting in a filthy, darkened room, eating and drinking overpriced food, with a bunch of people I don't know, watching overpaid actors portraying someone else's ideas.
What would make the experience better? I wnt to the Rocking Chair Theatre in New Orleans once--they had overstuffed chairs--they reclined, but no longer rocked. There was about 4 feet between rows, and 6" between adjacent seats-- and the chairs had tables that came out of the armrests (like an airline seat).
Instead of popcorn and candy, you could order "bar food"--burgers, fries, appetizers, shrimp, etc. Being New Orleans, you could go to the bar in the lobby, and bring your drink back to your seat. Kids were allowed if accompanied by a parent.
I kind of liked the idea--you could go out for snacks, drink, and entertainment for the night by yourself, or with friends. If the movie stunk, or you wanted to talk to your friends, you could just go out to the bar. Not a bad way to spend the evening--if you think about it, it is not that different from going to a pro sports event (food, drink, entertainment) or a sports bar--you just have to be quiet in the theatre.

So far I can see that the seating is very important to most people.
Going on what Jimhanson said, the dinner theaters do well in the larger markets, but it could be a hit or miss in this area.
What do you feel that most people would be willing to pay to go to an older movie (i.e. 3 weeks old)?
Does $3 sound reasonable, if you have the image quality and a good sound system to add value to that $3 ticket?

I had a PM from a Forum reader--said he had been to a similar theatre and enjoyed it--snacks, beer, wine available.
I think a theatre/bar, with a $3 admission/cover charge, would be a good idea--not much different than a sports bar.
Dinner/drinks/entertainment/companionship--all in one place, for not a lot of money.
