Claiming anyone in any debate anywhere is the winner is opinion. Nothing else. Debates are not intended to have winners. So who is winning the debate over who won the debate?  Media comes out on top once more.
Rule One on this forum: do not wander more than an arms length from the political fence or you become a nut, kook, or marginalized. Near that fence one is always in contact with the familiar, whether friend or foe. The backslapping and bickering is comforting for some. Letting go of the fence demands courage, imagination.
'Most people are conditioned to accept "majority rule" without a second thought. In doing so, they assume the majority is always right. Accordingly, they are resigned to accept whatever polling results prevail even if they may have personally chosen otherwise. This habit of thought is explained by the observation made by Jonathan Swift over three-hundred years ago that “some people have no better idea of determining right and wrong than by counting noses.” '

As far as the kooks go, have you ever noticed no one responds to their mentally I'll ramblings? I'm usually the only one that responds and I'm intentionally nasty so that they will go away since we don't ban people. I've been considering shutting down the forum because it's starting to resemble the day room in a mental hospital.
Look through the topics and see how many people respond to Rosalind, Stardust, or any of the conspiracy theorists.

Gee, debate winners are only opinions. NOT ALLOWED! Nuts, kooks and mentally challenged. BERATED!

Thanks for proving my point.
I'm wondering, then, what was the original intent of the forum? It appears to have either began as or evolved into a private boys club with bouncers at the door.
I was advised several weeks back that anyone is welcome to post, whether anyone responds or not. Fair enough. Expecting an open forum to closely resemble personal preferences seems unrealistic.
In my view the range of participants on the forum is fairly indicative of local sentiments. I enjoy the variety. As stated some are more comfortable within"gated" discussions. Unfortunate. And to expect us "mentally ill" to run with our tails between our legs at the first insults??

So the former Military Policeman is now a self-admitted bully. What a shocker.
As far as I'm concerned, bullies (and Hope and Change bumper sticker folks) are flying waaaay closer to Crazy Land than I could ever dream of.
The most intelligent people I know question the Official Story from time to time. That's no badge of dishonour where I come from. It's the bleating sheep that swallow 100% of the tripe their chosen news outlet spews that annoy me. I may say some disparaging remarks about their ilk, even in some straw-man fashion, but that's one thing. Personal insults? They may make for good web traffic, but I hate myself a little bit when I'm down on that level. I read "you kooks" once, and the phrase tickled me funny bone, and I was off to the races.
My Bad. But I digress...
I've had my fill of bullies. I'm betting a lot of the people that will not respond to this post have too.
Just because you own the lifeboat, that doesn't give you the right to paddle in the opposite direction. We're invested in this, too. We might've devoted those years to some other forum, had we known how close-minded some people would become...
