As far as Nolander goes, he accepted some additional county duties for extra pay. (I know this comment is going to stir up some ire.)
Harig should have worked his way up the pay scale just like everyone else. He knew going into this job that for a time he would have people under him making more than him.
I will say one important thing, though, with the increasingly wide spread of meth and meth labs, I think he's going to be damn good for this county.

Irisheyes, last year when the county board was giving out raises to county employees, they decided to give everyone the same percent raise. Nelson felt like he was the only employee that was worthy of more so he took the county to court to get a bigger raise. Dont you remember this one? The county gave all others a 3 percent raise, Nelson asked for at least 6 percent, the judge told the board to visit the issue again and suggested he get the 6 percent. So at the next board meeting the commissioners, take that back, the four idiot commissioners claimed they had been beaten in court and gave Nelson a 14 percent raise.
I might add that Nelson made his raise request 7 days after his reelection.

What kind of nonsensical statement is that? Like ANY sheriff wouldn't be going after "meth labs". Oh, I see what you mean, a sheriff who won't observe civil liberties. Isn't that really what you mean?

kid, I'm just referring to Harig's long history of drug enforcement. Of ccourse any sheriff is going to go after meth labs, but Harig has made it his top priority, I think that's good. The dangers of this drug and the risks occurred when making it, on top of the fact that so many times children are in the home where it's made, I have to like the fact that he is making it his top priority.
A sheriff that won't observe civil liberties, kid, you lost me there. Explain.

Thanks for the explanation Hoosier. I knew it was outrageous what he ended up getting, but no, I never knew that was how it started.
As for Harig, I thought he was the best of all the other candidates. But this pay raise is a joke! I'd like to know what deputy is going to make over $60k by the end of this year? Another thing is his motorcycle, I know he likes harley's, but a public official should not get a free lease on a harley "for work"!
