"Sheriff Mark Harig has told commissioners that he wanted to start out at the same pay level that the retiring sheriff left with"
Isn't THAT just wonderful. He wants to START...he wants his starting pay to be the same of his predecessors end of career pay!
Boy, I'd sure think it swell if I my entry pay would match the old bosses ending pay...sound fair?

Our sheriff wants the same pay as the previous sheriff received after 20 years of service to Freeborn County? Well with crime running ramped here I for one believe the guy needs a pay cut until he can get the mess under control. Otherwise maybe we should vote in a new sheriff the next time he is up for election

I guess the 30 years he has of service to Freeborn County mean nothing. Maybe he should stay getting paid less than some of his employees. Open your eyes you idiots. :0

Harig knew the pay scale when he ran for sheriff. Don't you tell me he didn't! $60,000 per year PLUS good bennies is plenty. Perhaps his deputy shouldn't have been put on the pay fast-track by officials incapable of managing funds. What a baby-He makes more than me and the Sheriff now!..wah freakin' wah!

you know, I've lived in several different counties in different states and I've never seen anything like this. A sheriff telling the commissioners what he wants in the way of pay? That's outrageous.

I agree, and who in the real world can start a job at the same pay as the person that retired from the job? It seems like Craig Nelson all over again, they take the job knowing what it pays, but after they get elected they ask for more. That shouldnt be a problem though, they should be told that they knew what the pay was when you took the job, wait on the normal pay increases. But our guttless commissioners wont turn anyone down when it comes to spending money. I also see where Nelson only got a 1 percent raise, is he going to threaten to take them to court again?

So he wants more money, even though he has not even served a FRACTION of the time that the previous person did? Maybe we should make this interesting and start a betting pool for monopoly cash on how long it take Harig to sue the county for more money, and how long before the idiot 4-some decide to cave in. Things in this county just keep getting worse and worse. Can I go ahead and turn the light out now??
