Tracfone had this special at Christmas time and I picked up a phone for my daughter and with the referral program the phone was essentially free because I got 100 mins free airtime for really just referring myself.
The best part about getting a Tracfone for your kid is they are prepaid so they can't go over on their minutes and there is no credit check so anyone can get one.

If you are going to get this phone you need to find a friend that uses a tracfone so that you can get the extra 100 mins and the person referring will get the same thing.

At this price you can buy them, activate them and sell them on ebay and still get 100 free minutes with each one you sell or you can buy it use up the airtime and then just sell the phone to one of the cell phone companies and get $10-$20 back.

I've had a tracphone for a few years. I like it. You can't go over, no contract to sign, can use it anywhere. I'd have to say that is a great deal Liberal.

My wife, my oldest daughter and I all use them. I think it's a great deal for people like us that don't use a cell phone that often. But, if you plan to use it a lot then a tracfone is not the phone to use.
What's great about this deal for me is since my daughters airtime card is due in about 10 days, I'll just send myself a referral using my daughters account and then buy another phone. So I'll get a $30 (100 min) airtime card for my daughters phone for sending the referral and I'll get a phone with 90 days service and 240 mins of airtime all for the price of the airtime card I already needed to buy. Then I can just use the new phone with 240 minutes on it as a fathers day gift or just sell it on ebay.
Anyone that has a Tracfone and doesn't care about changing their number should take advantage of this deal because last I heard you can call tracfone and have them move minutes from your old phone to your new one by calling customer support. So all you do is send yourself a referral and then after you put your 100 free mins on your old phone you just have all your minutes transferred over to your new one. That way you can get a new phone with 340 minutes of airtime for $29 and then you can sell your old phone back to one of the cellphone companies or just donate it to The Rock. (I'd setup a new hotmail account to do it this way that way you get the extra 10 mins for registering your email address)
If you're not from Albert Lea you'll have to check the Tracfone site and see if the offer is good in your area, it's a regional offer so even though it's still available in Albert Lea it might not be where you are.
And if you're a brand new tracfone user make sure to PM Newbie or myself or just post your email address so that someone can send you a referral.

Are these Tracfones analog or digital. We started out a couple of years ago with a tracfone from Hickory Tech and its $15.00 for 30 minutes. Kind of a rip off but it is great to have when your on the road. Then last year we got a nokia digital prepaid from Midwest Wireless and you pay $20.00 for 80 minutes. You have to put something in every other month.
We found out though traveling to Wisconsin Dells last August that you have to dial 611 and use whoever is in that area for prepaid service. It costs 1.00 a minute and you use your credit card. Needless to say, we didn't use when were there. We were able to use it at the rest stop just over the Wisconsin border when we stopped to look at the lock dams.
What kind of area do these tracfones cover?

Tracfone's are nation wide. They do however switch to roaming when you are out of your region (area code). They are digital and offer free voicemail, caller id, & text messaging. Most prepaid cards offer 60 days of service. So you need to get a new card before the 60 days is up. 400 units (mins.) are $79.99 200 $49.99 100 $29.99
