Accumulation of ironies
SIOUX CTIY -- The ironies of this war accumulate. In answer to the attack on America, the United States invades a country that had nothing to do with the Sept. 11 attack. In order to suppress terrorism, the U.S. takes action that inflames new terrorists and burgeoning anti-American sentiment not only in the Middle East but around the world, even among our former allies.
In order to promote democracy and its concomitant right of free speech and expression in that country, the United States shuts down a newspaper. To further protect democracy, the Pentagon rules that no photographs of flag-draped coffins may be taken by American journalists. Images of American dead being treated with respect would, they argue, constitute disrespect of the dead. Finally, two Maytag Aircraft workers who take such a photograph and allow a Seattle newspaper to publish it, without compensation, are summarily fired by their employer, a corporation making money hand over fist off this war.
I begin to wonder what the precious blood of these young men and women is being spilled to protect. When will America be America again? -- Jeanne Emmons

How true! I believe we should get out of Iraq by the June 30th handover deadline as it is the only way we can save grace as well as lives. Middle Easterners have been killing each other for centuries and will continue for centuries more. No weapons of mass destruction have been found. Let's leave.
