This from channel 6.
"Only a few months into the new budget year, the Freeborn County Sheriff's Department is in danger of spending much more money than was budgeted for.
Commissioners got together with the sheriff today to discuss the situation.
One problem is that while the department had been allotted one new vehicle this year, more than that have already outlived their usefulness."---->This is out and out poor management. The department should easily be able to figure out it's vehicle needs. It's simple math...
"Computer systems have crashed as well, meaning still more outlay of money."---->How much more? Sounds like BS..what are the details.
"And overtime caused by recent heavy snowfalls has cost additional dollars that had not been budgeted for."---->ANOTHER example of poor management..sounds like more BS because everyone knows it has a tendency to snow in the winter!
This Sheriff is out of control and all Gabe can do is get out the checkbook.
We need to clean house before all the money's gone.

Can't you see it's not his fault, He's broke because of car crashes, computer crashes and the snow?
How could the board not see this coming? Since the guy was elected he's acted like a kid in a candy store. I'll have a motorcycle, a swat team, a K9 unit, 4 wheel drive vehicles, a personal assistant to help me with my paperwork, assault rifles, defibralators, a dozen or so jailers, another detective......

What can the board do besides lead by example. What are they going to do...tell him he's spending too much money after what they've done? LOL
Harig's just getting started...wait till you see next years budget! These guys ARE kids in a candy store and the store is paid for with taxpayer money and Gabes store manager.

Here is an idea-we need a local 10% tax. 1% for the sheriff's dep't 1% to clean up lakes 1% for courthouse repayment 1% for downtown redevlopment 1% for a new library and the remaining 5% for general goodies our leaders might think we need.

That is funny JJ Unfortunately if you let this proposal out in front of the council, it would probably pass :0

Sheriff Harig has been "agressive" in looking for new equipment. Some of it I support (defibrillators), some I question (dog), and some I'm against (full auto rifles? I WOULD support riot shotguns--shorter range). There is no question, though, that he is looking for the best for the department.
The car issue is not of his doing--it isn't his fault that they all seem to be coming up for lease at the same time--it wasn't him that signed the lease. Yes, there are a couple of shot-up cars--one "self-inflicted". Four-wheel drive vehicle? Yes, I think it is reasonable for the County to have one of those.
The motorcycle was questionable--yes, he can ride it in parades and public functions--it does remove miles from County vehicles--but it IS being provided free of charge by Bergdales (Sienfeld's line--"not that there is anything wrong with that") I DO like some of the things he is doing--when he needed money for the defibrillators or the dog, he didn't come BEGGING to the County board--he gave them a report ADVISING them that he would be conducting fund-raisers for the non-budgeted equipment.

Good point, I like alternate funding. He has been successful raising money besides confiscating property. I am in favor of that.

He spent his 12 month budget in 2 months for crying out loud.
And now he's your hero? You get what you deserve in this case.
