The 1133rd Transportation Company of Mason City will be on their way home from Ft. McCoy Saturday morning to Mason City finally after being away from their families since being deployed January 26th, 2003. They will be coming on I-90 to I-35 to Hwy 18 in Mason City. We got an email from Armory telling us the 1133rd be there tenatively between 10:30 and 11:30 AM Saturday morning. Come along the route and show your support for these great men and women. There will be many banners and ribbons along the way. They will end up at the Mason City High School.

I for one am very glad to have my brother home after all these months of worry. Especially after Josh Knowles, a 23 year old from Sheffield in their unit was killed in February. The mortar went straight through his truck. The 1133rd wasn't even supposed to be on this assignment as the regular army was, but they didn't want it. So the 1133rd took it. Josh died for his country and his driving partner, Peter Bieber was seriously wounded. The 1133rd logged 2.3 million miles on their 70 trucks over there.
Be proud of all the soldiers over there. And as soon the Albert Lea Guard gets done with their training at Ft. Hood and go to Afghanistan, we want to make sure they know we won't forget them.

I'm sure El Quida would be happy to know that...we aren't serious about terrorism or we wouldn't be saying things like that. It's all a game. We don't really believe they're out to get us here in the midwest.

Hey Lynn - great news.  I'm happy to hear your brother's home safe, but very sorry to hear about the casualties in the unit.  I hope lots of people are able to get out tomorrow to welcome them back!

It was such an awesome event on Saturday for the guys. We had to get there by 9:00 AM just to get a decent seat in the bottom row of bleachers at the high school. The local radio station from Mason City had a guy in the bus that was doing live reports on the radio about every 15 minutes, interviewing the soldiers on the way from Ft. McCoy in Wiscon to  Mason City. Once they got to Mason City exit, they loaded the soldiers onto flatbed trucks and paraded them down Hwy 18 to the school. There were thousands of people who lined the streets to support the soldiers coming back. They finally came through the doors at 11:40 AM to a packed gym. Of course, my brother was on the other side of the gym in formation so we couldn't get a good look at him until the ceremony was over. The ceremony was supposed to take 30 minutes, but I know it was more like an hour. Senator Latham talked the most, wouldn't you know. The best was the mayor pro-tem of Mason City. She told us she would keep it short and sweet. She only took a couple of minutes and the crowd cheered for her.  The commander general of the Iowa National Guard awarded Peter Bieber who was originally in the Albert Lea Guard a purple heart for his service. He was in the truck with Josh Knowles when the mortar struck their truck. He was airlifted to Walter Reed in Germany. The commander general also told us that the 1133rd had the most purple hearts given out of any national guard from this war. The other purple hearts were awarded back in January when we had 11 soldiers injured in an attack at the Log Base Seitz on January 7,2004.

It was almost surreal when they finally dismissed the soldiers to their families with SSG Steve Nelson announcing "Mission Accomplished". They played Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA and many more patriotic songs. I was trying to videotape for my brother. It was so loud in there, you could only hear the music and just tape the family hugging and crying. KTTC
had my brother and one of his daughters hugging on TV. If you watched channel 10 at 10:00 you would have known him by his daughters. They wear all wearing tye-dyed 1133rd t-shirts with red/white/blue feather boas to catch his eye when he came in.

I was very impressed by the show of support for the 1133rd from the banners, ribbons, flags and every business sign I saw welcoming the 1133rd home.

Yay Lynn and family!  I'm glad it went well - it sounds like it was a wonderful ceremony and homecoming.

I wonder what kind of homecoming the Iraqi warrior recieved after he went home for a break from fighting for his homeland. He probably doesn't get a break does he? He'' keep fighting, holding his ground while we switch out fresh soldiers against him. He'll fight 5 different fresh teams without a break.

In the end we walk away like nam, tail between our legs and looking back while running away. We are nation building. That will never work.

Watch...history always proves me correct. You'll see.

Kid, you are a real mood buster.
Lynn, I'm very happy for you.  Tell your brother that the truck drivers of America appreciate him. Also, my brother and father who are both retired Marines, do the same.
For those of you that are so naive to think we're safe in the Midwest, take a moment to think about it.
We have hospitals in Rochester that World renown people go to every week. This includes our own President. We have hospitals in Rochester and the Twin Cities that do serious amounts of disease research. We have one of the Dakotas (I don’t recall if its North or South), that is filled with ground-to-air defense missiles. We have some of the most productive farming real estate on the planet. We have 10% of the world’s fresh water supply sitting in Lake Superior. Last, but not least, we are mobile. The threat that you hear of poisoning our food supply that is shipped all over the country, is quite realistic. In short, if I were a terrorist, I’d go for the heart of the country.

It appears you're still buying the terror myth...the terror scare.

It's OK Johnny...It was just a handful of hi-jackers and that was all. A terror can do no more damage than the guy down the street without a jet. And we are watching the jets better now.

It's ok Johnny, there are no monsters living in your closet...you can go to nite nite now.
