I just don't think a Best Buy would settle in AL not because of the population, but the actual 'age' of the town. The mean average age of AL is 41 years old. I think Best Buy targets the younger generations more than the older simply because a fool and his money are soon parted (look at me, I went in and dropped way too much) where older people are usually a little better at hanging on to their money.
After all, that is what it's all about in the end, money.

Good point & true.  I think the smallest town Best Buy is in currently is Brainerd/Baxter which I believe is about the same size as Albert Lea with one HUGE differance, the outside draw.  Brainerd and Albert Lea are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to drawing in outsiders to shop, visit, etc.

Even if you think the ALEDC is a good idea, do you really want to put Sparks and Bishop in charge of all the economic development in Albert Lea?

I disagree. The draw would be most of southern MN. Right now people from southern MN drive up to the cities or Roch "just" to go to Best Buy. Albert Lea would be centralized for the southern half of the state and also northern Iowa.

I have about $30k electronics blow out in my room. I've got it all. There's nothing at Best Buy that you can't get elswhere for a better price or get better quality stuff.

To prove it, name one thing you'd buy there and I'll probably show you how to get it cheaper with no tax and better warranty service. Best Buy is ultra retail pricing because they provide a massive indoor playground from which one can handle and play with the stuff. You pay a lot for that.

There is always a place you can buy something for less money no matter how hard you try to get the best deal. I know you can purchase over the internet and not pay taxes along with lower prices. However, Best Buy is nice because you can go in and check things out first hand and see how some of the programs work.

One thing about a local store vs the internet is ... you can come face to face with someone if things go wrong rather then fight over the phone or email.

I'm not against buying from Dell or others like them, just think it would be nice to have a Best Buy out my back door.

Now I disagree.
The only place a Best Buy in Albert Lea would draw from is a 20-30 mile radius (maybe more in Iowa) outside of Albert Lea.
You say it would draw from Southern Minnesota, it would be a limited draw.  The market footprint for Mankato & Rochester's Best Buys overlap into Albert Lea.  Now, if Mason City does get a Best Buy, forget it for Albert Lea.  Best Buy won't put 2 stores within 30 miles of each other in small communities who's population is old and in decline, 1 store maybe but not 2.  If it's MC vs. AL, MC wins this one, higher population & it is far enough away from Mankato, Rochester & the Cities.

Think about it.  You drive to Best Buy in Rochester or the cities, put up with salespeople that only are interested in the sale and  you can get it cheaper.  When it comes to warranty repairs or a return what is their policy?  A defective unit normally has to be sent to the manufacturer, not by Best Buy but the person who bought it.  Computer repairs are in house and not necessarily sanctioned by the PC makers.  You then have egg on the face and have to go to a retailer that is certified by the company and get it repaired or get parts.  All along you would have had the peace of mind of taking it back to where you bought it and getting treated fairly.  Might be a little more, but what do you get for those dollars you saved on the purchase versus gas price and customer satisfaction.

Look, I'm not calling you an idiot just to be mean or call you names. I'm calling you an idiot, just like I'd call a dog... a dog.
