I just read in the Mason City Globe Gazette that Kohl's and Best Buy have expressed interest in building on land west of the Walmart Supercenter there.

"Charlie MacNider, who owns the Indianhead development land, confirmed there is interest from Kohl's, headquartered in Menominee Falls, Wis., and Best Buy, headquartered in Eden Praire, Minn., but also confirmed a sale is a long way from being complete."

It was also mentioned in the article that two other major retailers are interested in locating in the area, contingent upon Kohl's and Best Buy building there.

Hey maybe Albert Lea "officials" should get on the ball and try to lure them to come to Albert Lea and build next to our Walmart SuperCenter.

Well we can always dream can't we.

I don't know much about Kohls, but I think Best Buy really isn't any better than Wallmart or Ebay for purchasing electronics.  Prices are generally higher and sales people mostly just tell you what you want to hear anyway - Kind of like at TJ Max

All four corners are spoken for. Trails, Home Despot, Wally World and the new truckstop complex slated to be built across from Trails.

They're smart. A store at the MC location will at least 3 times the volume in retail compared to AL.

Best Buy is awsome and if you don't listen to the sales people you will do real well. I have found that the prices are sometimes cheaper then Walmart and the guarantee's on the electronics are far superior.

Don't know much about Khols.

I love shopping at Kohl's at Rochester and Burnsville. They have great clothes for  women and children at reasonable prices and sometimes they have really good sales. My son only wants clothes from Old Navy and Kohl's because they are so comfortable. They have a nice houseware and bedding section and they also sell men's clothes. Kohl's in Rochester is located in a strip mall across the street from Walmart Supercenter. There's Kohl's, some shoe store, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Old Navy, DressBarn and think there is one more place to shop on that strip in between Old Navy and Dress Barn.

I would love to get a Bed, Bath and Beyond to come here too.

amazing considering Mason City has lost about as much population as Albert Lea has.
I never thought either would open in Albert Lea but it does surprise me that the demographics for Mason would work for either franchise.  Does Mason City even have 30,000 people?

But you know how this stuff goes, I'll believe it when I see ground broken & a coming soon sign.

I personally think Mason City is a dirty town!!  Garbage everywhere.   Nothing nice to look at.  And the layout of the town is backwards.

Best Buy certainly does have a MUCH better selection of electronics than any other store in or around AL, but you do have to stay the hell away from their sales people. I have found most (not all) of the people that work in the computer section don't know that much about what they are selling.
I bought my laptop from the one in Rochester a year ago February and had to deal with a snot-nosed little punk. I knew more about the machine than he did and I didn't even do my research. When he went to ring everything up he asked me if I wanted to pay by check or credit card, I told him cash and he just rolled his eyes at me, so I flipped out 3 large and all of the sudden it was sir this, sir that. I probably should have left and bought the stuff somewhere else but I didn't, couldn't wait to play with my new toy I guess.
Anyway, back to the point, I just don't think a Best Buy would settle in AL not because of the population, but the actual 'age' of the town. The mean average age of AL is 41 years old. I think Best Buy targets the younger generations more than the older simply because a fool and his money are soon parted (look at me, I went in and dropped way too much) where older people are usually a little better at hanging on to their money.
After all, that is what it's all about in the end, money.
