Advocate, we do have at least one person running in both Behrends and Mathiason's district.  We think they have good chances of beating them.  We will be asking them to announce publically yet this week.  They are going to need a lot of support in their efforts, though.

You seem pretty knowledgable on the issues, why not join us in our grassroots drive to get these new people elected?

No, I don't think so Geo, at least Willie had the good sense to smoke his dope on the roof of the White House.  Do any of us believe Minnow would not light up right there in front of God and everyone?

I would like to help with the campaign of someone that I believe in.  I do not want to get involved until I know who that person is and what that person believes in.  To me, it is more that just about what happened with the courthouse.  I have to know that the candidate is honest and upfront and an independent thinker.  And I will tell you why.  I did run against Behrends in the 5th District the last go round.  I lost in the primary.  I spent about $500.00 of my own money while refusing to take money from a woman group out of Northfield, Minn. that offered,  because I wanted no part of any vested interests.  I think Behrends spent about $11,000.00 and Kraus about $20,000.00.  I could be wrong on these figures but I think I'm in the ballpark.  In fact,  my estimates  may be low.  It is expensive to run and I don't want to spend my money that way again, and I refuse to take money from anyone else because you become beholden to them.  Secondly, I am a lone wolf,  similar to Belshan.  I am a controversial person and in order to beat Behrends, the candidate cannot be that.    I have voted for Green Party candidates, Independents, Democrats and Republicans.  My beliefs are not always mainstream either and that would make some people just plain mad.  For example, I believe the Albert Lea school system is not up to par with the smaller surrounding schools and needs to be more realistic with what they now have for a population.  In fact, the District can no longer be all things to all people.  I am sad to see our City declining in economic prosperity and population.  I am sad that people like Ron Gabrielson and Paul Sparks have run our County and City  so  negatively.  I am sad that we still have a good ole boy mentality, and that means Mayor Eaton as well.  When, oh when, do people get mad enough to say enough.  When can we just plain look another person in the eye and tell them what we really think.  When is it that people get just plain sick enough of the status quo to say it is not just about me, it is about everyone?  Politics are a funny thing.  Obviously, the most intelligent person gracing the County Board meetings is Belshan, including the County Attorney, and yet because his approach can be bristling to others due to his directness he has been labeled a troublemaker.  He is a quick study well read and written yet he carries the burden of being the outcast.  But, to me, that is as it should be and I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he was in my District.  So, I'll wait to see  who the candidates are going to be.

Advocate, I agree with your post.

Truly honest people rarely get elected.  I hope I will have a good canidate to vote for in my ward.  I didn't vote for any of the options last time. (FYI i'm in springborg's ward)

Willie in the Whitehouse would not really be all that bad would it?  At least if he got things all mucked around, he could sing a song for us so we could all mourn together.  You can't tell me that he would ruin the place, it might be really good for the country.
