I'm still pissed about the trains coming through town at 60 mph when people have houses right next to the tracks. Seems to me the city should have jurisdiction to impose a speed limit or to have the tracks removed from the town. At the very least, property owners should be compensated for lost value since speed has increased. With Farmstead, Queens and most of Streeters gone, why do we need trains in town anymore. Do any of them stop anywhere?

Those tracks were there long before your house was built and the railroad will tell you so.

I agree that trains need to slow down when going through town, but on the other hand I don't think it is going to matter if someone is hit by a train going 20 miles and hour or 60 miles an hour. The outcome in either case is probably not going to be good.

The faster the better. If you live on the wrong side of the tracks, I'm afraid your problems are deeper than fast trains.
It's that you're living next to RAILROAD TRACKS!
I'm afraid your problem started way back in high school, when we were choosing spouses and jobs...LOL

Trains do not travel at 60mph through town.
The grade crossing of CSAH 35 or 325 St. has not had a sufficient number of fatal crashes to warrant crossing protection beyond the stop sign that is there. STOP at the sign you won't get hit. SIMPLE.
When driving 325 St at the U.P. crossing I routinely watch for trains because that's where the trains will be. They don't leap out from behind bushes and attack people. You can see where they go and where they have been because of the tracks. In addition, getting smoked by a train at 40-50MPH (that is the speed range for traffic on the spine line) would suck. That fear of being dismembered and crushed to bits and the fact that there is a traffic control device there keep me from getting hit by GIANT, LOUD, YELLOW trains that move the earth around them as they proceed.
In my opinion its hard to get hit by a train unlees one intends to or is DWHUA. Never fault the trains they have right of way; if you get hit by a train.....YOUR FAULT.

Not only that the train was already occupying the crossing when the truck drove into the train at speed. Not U.P.'s or the county's fault.

You are stepping on toes here, truth perhaps in the case that you refer to that may be true but how narrow-minded of you to speak so generally of all vehicle-train accidents. Unless, in this case you meant that in the eyes of the law it is always the vehicle drivers fault. Broad statements such as you made really limit your credibility.
