The moderators have been trying to resolve the problem of people using multiple usernames and causing problems.
We really don't have a good answer except to reveal IP addresses so that people can defend themselves against attacks from multiple usernames from the same connection.
But, we need input from the rest of the users before we switch the format to reveal all IP's so that everyone can see who is making multiple posts from a single IP address and defend themselves.
If anyone has a suggestion on how to resolve this problem in a different way your suggestions are more than welcome.

I have 3 computers and two internet lines. What's it gonna prove? This is a forum of ideas. Who says what isn't as important as what's being said. Try responding to the dialog for a change instead of worrying who said what. Revealing IP's are a dumb idea. It'll stifle free speech. To many crackpots like Geo and others to do that. Don't worry about it. Members privacy are more important than satifying a whiner like mamma or others who complain. Don't take away privacy to satisfy the whiners among us. Do not appease the whiners.

Minnow is not the problem! And nobody complained about him also I've never gotten a complaint from mamma about anything so I don't think she's much of a whiner.

I know Truth and some others post under different handles. That's OK. Sometimes we have to put up with some stuff we may not like in order to have freedom...
Hey! I should send that message to the President. He could use that advice...

Just attach part of the IP with the post:
Example:
Minnow fan
198.12.XX.X
It doesn't bother me but my room mate's posts will have the same IP as mine as we share a connection but who cares.
I do hear what kid dyno is saying though…this forum is slowly losing it's liberties, one by one…next thing you know, it will be illegal for me to smoke a cigarette while reading the posts in this room.

I can't control what is displayed on the IP, it's displayed on the bottom of each post and when you click on it, it performs a public whois search and returns the providers name, so partial IP's aren't to easy to do.
Maybe Minnow Fan is right and we should just go back to the old way and let anyone post under any name and not register unless they want the benefits of registration.
I've never liked the idea of registering anyways it just causes problems like this and doesn't solve a lot. In fact this is the exact reason I didn't want to make people register because anyone can register multiple names anyways so it just becomes pointless.
Should we go back to not requiring registration?
Or maybe use a stricter registration policy?

I couldn't care less if people are registering under different names. Those with only one name tend to be the ones I read anyway. Those that use only one name seem to be the opinions with something behind them. Those using more than one can only get themselves to sway towards their way urging them to create "fake" people making it look like they are in the majority. Go back to not requiring registration or leave things the way they are. I thought the only rules of this forum were that you use tact in your posts, that's it. Taking away privilege's is what became of the Albert Lea Tribune forum.

Well the current system isn't fair to the people who aren't as computer literate as others.
Some people believe that registration protects them from things like this and at least when we didn't require registration people were a little more open to the idea that they might be talking to the same person with just a different name.
I don't think registration has accomplished anything except given the computer literate users an advantage over the computer illiterate ones and I don't want to lose anymore good contributers to the forum because of people that aren't able to have a fair discussion.

We had 5 people with the same name ("Guest") before--it was hard to sort out who was who.
Now, we have 1 person with 5 names--and again, it is hard to sort out who is really speaking!
