Many smokers life expantancy is equal to non-smokers, so again I fail to really see the detriment in health here.

What you just typed, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have every read. Everyone in this forum, is now dumber for having read it.

I’m sorry minnow fan, but your being dumber has nothing to do with reading what I wrote, most likely some sort of problem you obviously have suffered from for quite some time.  Quit blaming others for you own lack of intelligence.

Here is some proof to back up what I said, since you obviously had a hard time comprehending it much less try to look up the info for yourself:

Quote
Take a look at one of the most prevalent lies about smoking, the 400,000 deaths per year caused by smoking. Incredibly, analysis of the ages of the 400K supposed deaths computed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) SAMMEC (Smoking Attributable Mortality, Morbidity and Economic Costs) program shows that tobacco is not a major health threat at all - the supposed victims did not die early! THE SMOKING "VICTIMS" LIVED LONGER THAN THE REST OF US, BY ABOUT 2 YEARS - 71.9 vs. 70. OVER 70,000, or about 17%, DIED "PREMATURELY" AT AGES GREATER THAN 85. Of course to perpetuate the lie, a smoker dying at any age had to be defined as a “premature” death. This often repeated lie just falls in line with the rest of the anti-smoking rhetoric.

And another thing, if people think that once they get the public indoor ban in place the anti-smoking bans will stop, think again.  Here is an article on how now they are starting to ban smoking in outdoor parks!

My bad slave, now that you have proven to me just how healthy smoking is, I am going to run out and buy me a carton.  And to think I wasted all these years not smoking when I could of been ingesting wonderful thick smoke into my lung tissue.

Is it too soon to strart my 4 year old smoking yet?  Better start her off on lights.

LisaMarie- I got the original quote in my inbox from another like-minded anti-ban person.  I posted it after looking at the background data used in the CDC study (what they site, anyway) and seeing the numbers.  I also came across THIS REPORT¹ from the Cato Institute which backs up the claim, plus shines light on several other misconceptions.  This info, coupled with the unreleased WHO report² that also shows no link between second-hand smoke and illness casts enough doubt on the matter that bans should not even be considered  The report was not released because it fails to back their own claims about second hand smoke.  As said by Joseph Goebbles “if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it” and it appears that these anti-smoking groups are doing just that!

The War On Tobacco is clearly about desensitizing the masses to oppression, not promoting public health.  The fear and loathing campaigns that these so-called health groups have launched are in a single word "criminal." and public is not being told the truth.  It is a crying shame that with our government's blessings these "health" groups are allowed to preach such specious trash, without any solid scientific facts.   I still believe in the American way and the rights and personal freedoms of ALL citizens, not just those of non-smokers.  If people want to smoke that is their choice.  If a private property owner wishes to allow smoking indoors at his or her place of business, they should have that right.  No one is putting a gun to anyone's head forcing them to be employed in or to visit a smoky bar or restaurant.

As time goes on if the need for non-smoking establishments becomes a reality, then that choice will be made by the private property owners, not over-regulating, meddling governments.  As long as tobacco remains a legal product that our governments and health groups derive huge profits and funding from the sales thereof, there should be places that smokers can smoke indoors within the industry of hospitality.  Prohibition does not work.
