Currently there is a drive to make Albert Lea Business Smoke Free this is to include all Bars.

I ask you a man owns a bar for 33 years he should know how to run his business.

The city never gave him any money to open it, and the one whining has never been to it, and probly never will.

I say we have a freedom to run our business the way we see fit.

I propose we post the surgen generals warning on the outside of the door should we choose to allow smoking.

You want revenue then you need to relize were else can you
smoke a fine cigar, " At The Bar".

We currently have a petition in need of 250 signitures at Eddie's bar which will force this into an issue at the ballet box.

I say and others say this is one more step towards sergregation.

All blacks to the back of the bus situation.

I say this is America, My Daddy fought in WW2, I fought In Vietnam and My son In Iraq.

We fought for freedom and we will fight you.

Friends of Freedom of Choice ....... keeping sorry ass goverment out of our business...

I quit a three pack a day habit some 22 years ago.  I know both sides of this and do not think that government belongs in the middle.  If a person wants to offer smoking to his patrons and this is know and concented to by all who enter, including the employees, where does the county have the right to step in?  Having said that, I must say that I'm not comfortable being in thick smoke, and would avoid such a bar or restaurant.

TV6 had a story on tonight about the possible Freeborn County smoking ban.  They also presented some of the junk science as 'fact', like sitting in a bar for 2 hours is like smoking 4 cigarette and other such nonsense.  What got me was that they stated something like 85% of the county would support this ban, where did they pull this number from?

Nothing on the TV6 website on this story...

I'm all for it. It's high time people that smoke and drink are seen in a truthful light. That they are simply drug takers. We're a nation of drug takers...mostly seniors making drug companies mega profits. It's time we come to terms with that fact and stop trying to make it "their" drugs illegal. It's all drugs and cigarettes are by far the deadliest.

cigarettes are by far the deadliest?  I'm calling bullsh!t! on that claim right there.  Meth and Crack are far deadlier that tobacco, so I'm starting to believe that marijuana does have an effect on the brain with all the ignorant crap you have been spewing lately...

Tobacco kills 1 out of 4 who become addicted for crying out loud! No other drug even comes close to that "record". The jury is in on this one bub. The evidence speaks for itself.

Wow!  I also have a study that shows O2 & CO2 consumption kills 100% of the people addicted to it!

Sorry to do this again, but as I pointed out in a post in the other thread, it was not the jury who came in but the judge:
Quote
... a U.S. federal judge, Judge Osteen, has declared the 1992 Environmental Protection Agency report on so-called secondhand smoke "null and void," ruling that the EPA "acted illegally and corrupted science to engage in a campaign of misinformation."?

Glad to see you can site the same junk science and straight out bunk that the anti-smoking crowd spouts as gospel...

Or how about the fact that tobacco is abused by millions & millions of people, crack & meth are not.  Thus, tobacco kills many, many more people then meth & crack combined.

Even if you think the ALEDC is a good idea, do you really want to put Sparks and Bishop in charge of all the economic development in Albert Lea?

Try looking again, and this time compare the percentage of users of each rather than net numbers of each.

And try to look at some unbiased data rather than the anti-smoking propaganda websites.  You do realize that if a 98 year old dies and happed to be a smoker, that the anti-smoking activists count this as a 'smoking releated death', right?  Their numbers do not actually say how people died, only that they died and happened to smoke...  Carry this logic onto any other substance and I can also conclude that more drinkers die than non-drinkers and more people who engage in sex die than those who don't, etc.  So using this logic, we should also be banning alcohol and sex as they kill as many if not more...

/Skewing numbers is fun!

Meth and crack users usually quit when they OD and die, and many who continue to use either of these two substances do not live very far into thier 40's.  Many smokers life expantancy is equal to non-smokers, so again I fail to really see the detriment in health here.
