His Dad made quilts for a living, but couldn't even do that right!    That explains a lot about Al...

Al can do great in a book when he's got the Harvard fellowship doing the work for him.  But on live air, he won't make it, he's funny, but thats all he is, a comedian, to say he's a satirist would be assuming he has some political skill.  Either way, he'll stay on the air, when his ratings go down the drain NPR will give him a job.  Otherwise, he might cry about losing his freedom of speech.  Besides, theirs always room for more incompetent liberal jornalists on the taxpayer's dollar.

Remember what the original thread name was?

Al Franken--funny or not? (Pages 1 2 )
will he make it on liberal radio?
So far, I haven't heard an opinion on whether he will or not--or WHY or WHY not. (sorry, ironmaiden and irisheyes--you posted as I was typing this--you ARE expressing your opinion) C'mon, lefties--stand up for your guy--tell us why this scheme will work.  Doesn't someone have an opinion?

Nobody held Rush up to be a paragon of virtue--only that he is the most successful of talk radio hosts--even his DETRACTORS admit that.

I wonder if Al and Paul O'Neal will sit down for a chat on the air
No, because O'Neill didn't write the book, it was ghost-written by Ron Suskind.

Perhaps Oneill's writer and the guy that writes Franken's material will get a chance to chat on the air! :D

The reason that liberal talk radio won't make it--even in the major metro markets--is that talk radio is about IDEAS--and the only thing we've heard from the dimunitive 9 Presidential Candidates (make that 8, as of today) is how much they hate Bush or Rush.  How about some NEW IDEAS?

"I'll see your ex-SNL comedian, and raise you"--according to the N.Y. Times (now THERE'S an unbiased paper!)--Dennis Miller has signed a deal with CNBC to do a show.

See the difference?  Unlike Al Franken, Miller actually GETS PAID to do his show--and he DIDN'T HAVE TO BUY THE NETWORK TO GET IT ON THE AIR! :D

Why are you going after Franken? Are just another Republican spouting stupid party lines and thought? Don't you have a mind of your own? I know you do...I've seen it.

Don't become a dumb republican...I know you're better than that.

Minnow--I'd PM you if I had the capability, but I'll answer in public.  To "go after" Franken doesn't make me a Republican--I've never liked the guy--he always reminded me of a 1960s "hey--look at me trashing the "establishment" guy".  Go back to the original name on the thread--"Al Franken--funny or not--will he make it on liberal radio?"  I think that's a valid question, along with the question "Why hasn't liberal talk radio made it anywhere in the U.S?  Sometimes, it's fun to throw out something contentious just to see what people think (not that YOU'D do anything like that, would you?) :D  In this case, I really WOULD like to know.

Party line--whose Party?  I haven't donated to the Republican party in 5 years.  I disagree with them on MANY of their platform positions.  I have no time for "preacher politicians".  In many cases, there isn't much difference between the parties, BECAUSE EVERYONE IS TOO AFRAID TO SAY WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN.  I'm a fiscal conservative, social moderate, Constitutional Constructionist, and Libertarian when it comes to keeping the government out of peoples business and individual liberties.  Though I can be called Conservative, I have friends that are ultra-liberal (including the Liberal on this board) :D   God Help Me, I even let the MCLU help hold the County in check! :D

I try to research facts before posting (my wife says too much time!), but the benefit of this Board is not only what others have to say, but the requirement to put your beliefs down in print--and defend them--makes me re-examine my own position.

We often get carried away "scoring points" against the other guy--and I'm probably guilty of that, too--but at the end of the day, people should be able to argue and debate and still be friends.  Poke fun at each other?  YOU BET--listen to a group of friends "kid" each other--that's why you often will see "smilies" in my posts. :D

Thanks Jim for asking about my show. Yes, Hilary will be my main driving force on the show. I think the b!t$h should be our democratic front runner, while she is still in denial about Monica. Otherwise, Moore should stick to building cars that chubby white trash. Ted Kennedy still is recovering from being under water to long, but otherwise how bout those Kennedys? Lovem or hatem! Hollywood? I guess other than that, I really do not have a plat form to stand on. I am just going to make sh!t up as I go. I will bad mouth Rush the best I can, and try and stick up for myself. I will push for bigger government and more taxes. I will tax the hell out of people that really go out and work hard and earn their wealth and distribute the cash to the couch potatoes of the world. I will promote myself for the 15 minutes that I will last, and this will be my legacy. Remember we may be buying a radio station near you! If so, tune in.

Why, oh why, do we have to label everyone.  The "liberals this" the "conservatives that"  as a very wise politician once said ..."People are much too complex to be pigeon-holed"  I personally am an empathetic sympathic once very poor on Welfare person who is monetarily conservative beyond cheap and supporting the Welfare system (yes, well off) today. Having lived in poverty and understanding the discrimination that it accompanies I know all too well that sad place.  Do not preach to me if you yourself have not lived it.  Today I have a measure of power because I am educated and have money.  But, I will never ever forget where I came from.

Al Franken was part of the Franken/Davis comedy writing team. Al has gone on to create many different characters.

Lately he's been getting air time over his polital views.
