Chief Wiggums and Gabe are both right.  Chief Wiggums said crime is the same in the city and Gabe said crime is up in the county.

Of course Gabe doesn't need a report to know this. He already knows that our little county attorney is not capable of sending a criminal to the state prison.  He knows that the charges always get plea bargained down so that the judge has no choice but to a sentence the offender to under a year so we end up keeping them in our county jail.

As a bonus his incompetence made the jail overcrowded which made it much easier to convince the county commissioners to build a new jail. And everyone knows if you're going to build a new jail then you might as well build an enormous government center attached to it with a brand new office for the little county attorney to make plea agreements in.

I heard a rumor that they have so many repeat customers at our county jail they have decided to have the released prisoners just drop their nametag into a bucket when they get released. That way when they come back the next time they don't have to make a new nametag for them they just fish the old nametag out of the bucket and clip it to the guys chest. (rumor is they only have to make a couple new name tags a year this way)

Why you people continue to live down there is beyond me.

You can't find a funnier place to live. Where else are you going to find a place where two deputies have shot their own windshield out in the last month or two.  One deputy freaked out when a person ran him off the road and then got out of his car and ran at the deputies car.  The Deputy drew his weapon and it went off blowing out his own front windshield.  The deputy says the guy dropped to his knees at that point and gave up saving him from having to wrestle with the subject. I think the the guy probably just figured it was best if he hit the dirt until Barney got the gun under control.

The other happened when a deputy was responding to a bank robbery. After the bank robber shot at him, he hid under his dash, layed his handgun on the dash and blindly emptied his clip through his own windshield. Of course we gave him a medal for that and the local newspaper ran a story on how the sheriff wanted assault rifles for more firepower. (I think he really just wants the deputies to carry assault rifles because it's a lot harder to shoot your own windshield out with a rifle.)

Yeah we should live in the cities get raped, mugged, or killed.

I don't think the crime rate in Albert Lea/Austin is anything to brag about whatsoever.
For cities of this size, the crime rate in this area is high.   :O

Guest, One of your rumors is incorrect. The jail doesn't have name tags for inmates. If they see them so often they shouldn't need them in the first place. :p
