Nose for News--these things have a way of evening out--after a while, crime will go down--THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT TO STEAL! :D

How about if we hang a sign on our front door--"nothing left to steal, the County got here first!" :D

Why do people stay down there anyway?  It isn't a crime to move away you know.

Because in the back of their minds they really hope to effect change...change that will never ever come.

Albert Lea is the perfect example of what happens when the reigns are handed over to unqualified people.

I found an interesting site that gives out neighborhood data.  One of the stats they have is called "Future job growth" which is defined as: The projected change in job availability over the next ten years based on migration patterns, economic growth, and other factors. A projected decrease in available jobs is represented as a negative number.  They also have a column for recent (past 12 months) job growth.

I plugged in some zip codes:
Austin - 55912
Future: 4.6%
Recent: 8.7%

Albert Lea - 56007
Future: .1%
Recent: -.4%

Mankato - 56001
Future: 6.7%
Recent: 3.3%

N. Mankato - 56003
Future:  14%
Recent: 3.1%

Owatonna
Future: 11.7%
Recent: .8%

Projecting 10 years out is kind of a joke but interesting data none the less.  If you want to check it out click on neighborhood info, halfway down the left side.

Which one is it right Winkels or Gabrielsen ?

Crime rate about the same as last year
By Tim Sturrock, Tribune staff writer Jan 14 2004

Crime statistics for Albert Lea changed little from 2002 to 2003, according to a report released by the Albert Lea Police Department.

"It fits the pattern that we're staying the same," said Assistant Police Chief Dwaine Winkels "It makes me feel overall that (Albert Lea's) a safe place to live."

Crowded jail means higher cost for county

By Tim Sturrock, Tribune staff writer Jan 9 2004
County Administrator Ron Gabrielsen has maintained that the new jail is neccesary for this reason and others.

"The evidence speaks for itself," he said. In discussions with other counties he's found that jail space is short everywhere.
"The vast majority of counties have inadequate jail space."
He attributed the jail problem to an increase in crime.
