I've worked in both Union and non and have felt the pros and cons of both. Worked for companies that didn't give two shits about you. Worked for unions where you had some protection against a shitty employer but at the same time enabled employees to be lazy. Like everything in life there are pros and cons to both I guess...
-------------- After we screw up health care reform, let's take on the initiative of unscrewing the education system (gov't education) Tacitus: (c. 56 AD-c. 117) "The more corrupt the state, the more it legislates."
You can get fired on a union job, the union can attempt to get your job back but it doesn't always succeed. The union would have to give something up in the way of grievances. So protecting lazy workers isn't something that happens, at least not on the jobs I've held in my lifetime.
What a Union does provide is a little dignity in the work place. A seniority system where you can bid on jobs if you're qualified.
A Union Contract also provides decent wages, health benefits, Holidays, Vacation, and a pension plan.
Unions aren't perfect but they came about for good reason...
-------------- History is no more than the lies agreed upon by the victors.
