QUOTE necessary is debatable.. I am more worried about the end game.. What will come of this? What is the goal? You have a 3 way civil war and none of the options wining is good. I agree with G.I.L. and Expat on this. None of the options are good, but for some reason people believe that striking a target with Tomahawks is going to help the casualties from past attacks. It reminds me of when Clinton was mocked for sending a few missiles at tents in north Africa.
It was a political diversion, many on the left had predicted it for weeks. And the response was expected, it slows down the scandals of Trump's administration and his historically low poll numbers. He saved no one, not changed anything in terms of helping refuges there or abroad. The same babies he pretends to care about, had they lived, would have been banned from coming to the U.S. simply because they're Syrian. And now he pretends to care about them? Doubtful, very doubtful.
I think we've "helped" enough nations in the middle east with missiles and bombs, and they don't need anymore of that kind of help from us.

QUOTE However, sadly, the actions we took, were necessary to send a message to the entire world that you can not do things like that and go unpunished. Hopefully Syria and their allies will take it as the message it was, S.B. QUOTE I agree with was1, as ugly as it is, it was necessary. Not only Assad was sent a message but also N Korea and China. If you want to send a message, how about we actually send a message? That's normally the State Department's job, but they've been silent and facing dramatic budget cuts.
We've been reigning down hellfires and tomahawks for 15 years now, sending a lot of weapons isn't messaging, it's perpetual war with no end in sight.
I understand where you're coming from, was1. But we haven't had a peace dividend in about twenty years, and it's no coincidence there hasn't been a balanced budget since then. If the new focus becomes Syria or North Korea, how about we at least stop one or two other wars before we invade or strike a new one?

QUOTE (Expatriate @ Apr. 07 2017,7:46 am)
QUOTE Trump put troops on the ground a few weeks ago and now he's spent another 60 million on cruse missiles, is this another 100 year commitment to war brought to you by a Republican? I believe what we have here is a Gulf of Tonkin incident does the Maddox or Turner Joy ring a bell..
Ummmm, the Gulf of Tonkin incident happened under Lyndon B (Batsh!t) Johnson's watch. He also escalated that war right up until the end of his term. So did WWI Wilson, WWII FDR (who we have to thank for imprisoning thousands of US citizens despite their rights) Are there Repubs responsible throughout history? Most certainly but the Nazi party has a lot of blood on their hands. Let me spell it out for you...there's a lot of factions at work in Syria, from the Israelis to the Saudis, Turkey, Russia, Iran, as-Sa'iqa.Syrian Social Nationalist Party, Amal Movement, Arab Nationalist Guard, Syrian Resistance, Jaysh al-Muwahhideen, Forces of Abu Ibrahim, Liwa al-Jabal, etc. etc. etc...
The Syria government has the Russians backing them, they've been putting down the civil war so why would they use a nerve gas now? nah doesn't make sense, one of the other factions wanted to draw US in deeper, maybe the Neocon in the White House..he put boots on the ground two weeks ago, who knows?? Why is it Draft Dodgers are so ready and willing to involve US in things that have nothing to do with National Defense?
As for the Gulf of Tonkin it was a way to draw US deeper into Vietnam, it's just a comparison to the BULLSHYT that's going on here..
"America first" another lie by the Neocon TRump..

You mean like Buster's drawing a line then doing nothing when it was crossed?
Using tomahawks the last 15 years? Yes but Buster's weapon of choice was a drone, you know, take out US citizens.
And a far as a peace dividend, forget it, we've been ramping up the import of our enemies for quite a while now.

But still no defense of Billy I don't recall Trump ever writing a letter saying he loathed the military.

Trump is a clairvoyant, he's telegraphed his Presidency moves five years ago...this neocon needed a distraction so he created one...

And yet the Faithful will somehow find a way to dismiss this...
This was never about messaging. It was about Raytheon. If we didn't have these little pockets of unrest, we'd have to invent them.
Oh, wait - we did that, too.
