In 2001 the Taliban destroyed almost the entire opium crop in Afghanistan, believing that opium is a disgrace to Islam. A couple years after we invade, the news is saying that heroin is how the taliban gets most of their money, and our soldiers are guarding poppy fields and helping farmers so the farmers don't join the taliban? Maybe the taliban changed their mind in regards to heroin? Wachovia and HSBC been in the news alot the last couple of years for laundering drug money, but I'm sure the banks only launder Mexico and South American money. Why is it surprising that people might not believe some of our government agencies and not trust what some of them do?
How about the garbage coming out of Washington about Russia and Crimea? What country is the US going to try and start a war with if war with Russia turns out the same way Syria did?

So now the CIA has the army doing it's dirty heroin work. Sure beats supporting the Afghan rebels during the Soviet occupation.
Either are bad choices, but a third option would be to get out of the war there entirely. I'd favor the idea that we stop nation building and let the people of Iraq and Afghanistan handle their own sovereignty from now on.
Oh, and now would be an ideal time for us to stop giving weapons to Israel.

The option that should have been excuted is occupation like we did in Germany after WWII and stay there until the generations of haters die out. If that means forever then so be it. Oh and use the oil to pay for building US military installations across the country as well as rebuilding the infrastructure there.
